    BREXIT

Since the Lim Dems traditionally pick up some protest votes, this means that they alienate any Brexit supporters who have had enough of the Tories and Labour. Very much all of their eggs in one basket.
  2. Nope. You're spot on. Keep up the good work.
  3. Clearly they don't like to get wet feet. Good job 👍
  4. It happens. You only need to watch these `Neighbour from Hell` TV programs to see how bitter some people get. It's a shame that is has happended but the complaints have proven to be unfounded. Sadly, the Council can't (and won't) tell you who the complainant is. I do not know if you have any recourse to make a counter cliam for harassment etc. The arguement could be that the complaints are made in good faith. Hopefully, the Council will educate them that there is no complaint uphold. This is assuming that it is the same person and not 3 separate complaints? The OP has filmed his dogs before and as the complaints have not been upheld, there shouldn't be any need for additional proof from CCTV. It is a good idea though, just in case anything escalates. keeper96 - something you could do is to print of a little letter/note and stick it through all the local letter boxes. Just say that you've had 3 complaints and you find it quite upsetting/distressing (most people who complain assume that they are the `victim` and don't realise the impact that it has on other people). Point out that the complaints have not been upheld and that you are quite willing to talk to anyone about your dogs. It is highly unlikely that the person responsible will come forward, but it might encourage other people to discuss the situation and possibly discourage futher issues.
  5. As above - that's a gen 2 (same as I have). The gen 3 has extended chokes.
  6. It usually gets a mention in the Daily Fail most years. Time will tell. I do think we are due some snow this winter but can't be more precise than that. 🙂
  7. Really pleased to hear that MM - well done! Next week we'll focus on thermo physics.... 😣

    BREXIT

So: Parliament don't want a no deal Brexit Parliament want (another) delay Parliament want a better/newer deal, but can't agree on a deal EU don't want to negotiate Boris has offered an election and Corbyn doesn't want it (having asked for it since like.......forever) How is this going to help deliver Brexit? Have we not been here before? I'm really struggling to get my head round it now.

I cannot remember a time when an Opposition party were scared of a GE being called early. How times have changed.

    BREXIT

On the face on it, Boris is trying to deliver the referendum result? Parliament can't agree on a deal, so the default position is no deal? They don't want a no deal, so they want a delay, to agree a deal. Parliament can't agree on a deal, so the default position is no deal? And repeat. We've been here before and I can't see a solution. Well I can - another referendum and we stay in the EU, because that's really what a lot of MP's and business leaders (one in the same?) want and why they have frustrated the whole process. I'm totally undecided on Boris - I wasn't keen on him as FS or London Mayor. I'm still not keen on him BUT he at least is making the right noises about leaving without a deal if that is effectively the only option we have. Take that out of the equestion and the EU just laugh at us (again). As has been said before - lots of people in Parliament have their own agenda and without a consensus this will just go round in circles. We can talk about democracy, the constitution etc, but Parliament still seem to think that they know what is best for us, when their main motivation seems to be self-preservation, money, career, greed and/or non-exec director roles. I really don't know where this will go next.
  15. I've changed laptop screens before. You can usually find a You Tube video or on-line instructions specific to your laptop. They can all be slightly different. Removing the cover can be a case of prising part of it off and working your way around. Metal tools (flat bladed screwdriver) aren't the best thing to use as they can scratch/crack/damage stuff. You can buy plastic tools (the same thing you get for changing a phone screen or battery) or guitar plectrums are quite useful. Some laptops will have little screws hidden behind little plastic/rubber grommets, so have a look for those as well or it will never come off. You sure the screen won't recover over time or are you certain you've knackered it? If you do go ahead - you usually need to take the main base cover off to unplug screen cables and there will be webcam wires and maybe a wifi antenna as well. I always take photos and list how I disassemble, just to make sure I don't end up with anything left over! Let us know how you get on.
  16. Ok - doesn't look too old. Do you have other `background` programs added? Usually it's other stuff that can make it slow to start up. Even a massive Outlook email .pst folder (if you use it) can slow it down. As Kalahari said, you can run some diagnostic type programs to try to clear out some rubbish and see if that helps but if the PC isn't that old, it may make little difference. What sort of stuff do you store on it? Do you use it very often? If you're infrequent user, then it might be downloading Windows and/or Anti-virus updates - that can really make them slow to start. One thing you can do is turn it on - see how long it takes. Once it's all up and running you can open the Task Manager. Press CTRL+ALT+DELETE. When the screen pops up, select Task Manager. The Processes tab shows what background programs and any Apps (things like internet, email etc) or currently running on the machine and how much resource they are using. On my laptop, you can see that Chrome uses a lot of my RAM. That is because I have about 20 tabs open (each tab is a different web page) and that uses a lot of memory. Having programs like Word, Excel, Email etc all use RAM, even if they are open but not being used. My laptop has 16GB RAM and as you can, 8GB of that is being used (it says that 50% of memory is in use). Ideally, you want 50% free (as I do) to allow the PC to function fairly well. Oobviously, on start up, none of these Apps (Programs) are open, so the RAM use is usually lower, but other `background` activity can suck the life out of it. The point is, that to have the laptop functioning well, 50% of free RAM is a sort of benchmark. If my laptop had only 8GB RAM (as it did when I bought it), then it would already be struggling to cope with day to day use. I knew that and that was why I put 16GB in it. For you - it would be interesting to see what resources you are using when the laptop is on, with no programs open. Then open up the stuff you want to use like Word and Internet and see what the RAM %'age is. That will not fix your problem but it would be nice to know the stats and see if the slow to start happens all of the time. You should then see a screen like this once you have opened the Task Manager.
  17. No problem. Win 10 Home or Pro? It might have a sticker on it telling you that (or you can check in the settings). What anti-virus are you running? I can talk you through a couple of things you can check once you've got access to it.
  18. A laptop that new shouldn't be that slow. What spec is it? (processor mainly). Do you have much software on there that you really need (or don't mind re-installing?). You could try a fresh install of Windows with the `keep my files` option. You'll lose any programs that aren't stock but you keep your data. What version of Windows are you running?
  19. Define `cheap` as you do get what you pay for. My employer bought `cheap` Lenovo Ideapad laptops for £250 and they were rubbish. For £350 we got some Lenovo G330 or similar and they work ok. I haggled a bit more (I also look after the IT) and got a Lenovo E590 for £600 (from £750 with sale price and discount code). The best bit is a solid state drive (SSD) which boots up in 10 seconds and it's just so much quicker. Decent processor speed and RAM also help. All laptops slow down after a while. It's a fact of life! They get clogged up with stuff and bloatware or other background programs. I tend to increase the stock RAM from 4mb or 8mb to 16mb as it's rarely enough for the laptop to run what I need. Word, Excel, Email and about 30+ open tabs in Chrome. Add anti-virus and Dropbox in the background and 4mb RAM gets overwhelmed and slows things right down. Your ASUS looks like it should have a decent spec. How old is it? What's your budget? Arguaby, any new laptop will be fresher/faster, but if you buy too cheap, you'll end up punching that as well....

    BREXIT

Doesn't this happen at every election? Does that mean that after every election, let's say 2 years, we can ask for another electoin because said party is not doing what they said they would or we've changed our minds? We are entering the realms of allowing people to ask for another vote on the basis that they don't like the outcome or they've changed their minds. Democracy is one thing but we also need to take responsibility for what we are voting for as an electorate.

    BREXIT

John - you're making too much sense. You sure you're on the right forum? We voted to leave the EU - so any decisions/votes that need to be made should be based on what deal we get and not whether we actually leave? Boris is forcing the issue because Parliament has failed to agree on anything. At least this way, we should get some sort of end game/closure.

    BREXIT

What Parliament don't seem to want to do is actually deliver the result of the Referendum. The petition mentioned above gives 2 options - extend A50 or withdraw from Brexit. WHY? I totally agree with John's comments above. Time to get this over the line.
  24. In terms of quality, Meindl and Haix make very good boots. Everyone finds a boot that fits and works for them (bit like buying a gun). We all have our favourites. 20+ year ago I had a great pair of Doc Martins with padded ankles and steel toes.Great for work and I even played football in them at lunchtimes. My current pair for very occasional wear are some generic CAT type boot.
