    Computer

How old is the computer? What version of Windows do you have? What software do you not want to lose?
  2. I have this `common sense` discussion a lot of the time - on several subjects. It has now been decided that common sense is developed and moulded by life's great experiences. You aren't just born with it. Common sense is in fact `the use of judgement based on previous experiences/learning points`. After many years of scientific research and shouting at people (I nearly typed `shooting`....), it was concluded that most of the time, my common sense had been influenced by life experiences and is not a born trait (sadly, not as smart as I thought I was). The correlation between me saying/shouting/(shooting?) "you should know better, where is your common sense" - was in fact based on me having learned that `common sense` at some previous point in my life. So - yes - it sounds like common sense, but I have learned that (or been taught that) at some point in my informative years. I still see people popping off at pigeons in the next postcode, doing `dumb` stuff with guns, clay traps etc We need to take it upon ourselves to educate people, de-dumb them and make them CS Ambassadors. *gets off soapbox*
  3. We won't know until the full facts or at least more details are released. I agree that arming all officers is a recipe for disaster. Had this officer been armed, would the outcome have been any different? In the US officers are shot with their own guns. 10 v 1 is hardly fair, with or without a gun. What I do think should be mandatory is double crewing of officers, especially on night shifts. It's simply an officer safety issue. People think twice when there is more than one person to deal with. The whole issue (and 2 other recent events involving police officers) are incredibly sad and only fuel the debate about people's view of law and order. My condolences to all involved.
  4. Appreciate the view from some that .22LR might not be the most appropriate, but I agree with the above sentiment being used sensibly: Range Shot placement Humane dispatch Not everyone has a slot or access to larger calibres and a .22LR can be more dual purpose than a .243 I saw a fox shot in the head with a .22LR from a range of about 60 yards. Very quick and effective.
  5. True - but you can pick and choose when to go shooting and effectively control your costs. You can't pick and choose when to have a horse/pony or how many gazillions of £££'s they will cost you. It's just like having dogs. You don't get a day off. Horse ownership is very rewarding but certainly comes at a cost. You just need to be able to justify it.
  6. Horses have 3 costs associated with them: Fixed: Livery, feed, farrier etc Variable: Vets, lesson fees etc "How much!!!": Horse box, vehicle to tow horse box & enough matchy match kit to fill a container. *all based on personal experience If you think it's a passing fad, then lessons and/or loan and see how things go. If it's going to be a long term thing, then prepare to spend a lot of money, time and effort supporting it. Paid livery removes a lot of the pain of the winter DIY routine but costs more. Horses/Ponies are 24/7 committments - something that doesn't compute so well in little heads. Good luck with whatever route you follow.
  7. Good to hear. Let us know how you get on with - once you've got a bike!
  8. I've had a response from 3 `Zwifties`. Zwift 1(really good road rider and occasional MTB rider - can afford nice toys) Uses Tacx Neo - as it allows you to hot swap a bike without changing wheels/tyres. Suggests Flux is newer/cheaper and just as capable. 1st gen models had issues but 2nd gen are fine Zwift 2 (rides a lot and likes his toys) Uses Tacx Flux (2nd gen) - automatically adjusts resistance. Likes it. Also suggested Wahoo or a Wattbike Atom (quite funky apparently). Zwift 3 (more MTB but a real geek and loves his gadgets) Had a Tacx without Zwift and sold it. Likes the Wattbike. Says that to get the full effect, you need a 60" 4K TV and the necessary subscriptions! Apparently you need a couple of fans to cool you down at you get a bit sweaty after a while. The bottom line is that it's not cheap if you want to do it properly and immerse yourself in the world of Zwift (I see Strava updates of them riding some TDF stage or belting round Central Park - it's very cool). People who have it seem to like it. If you are happy to just spin the wheels and get a turbo trainer with adjustable resistance, you can do it on the cheap. If you want the whole immersive world of `real time` riding, on-line and with a TV, then get ready to spend a few £££'s. Half of Zwift is social interaction, the other half is `realistic` riding (so they tell me). Bit different from a turbo trainer and a £50 eBay special! Also - try some roadie specific sites to see what people think: https://forum.bikeradar.com/viewtopic.php?f=40042&t=13106314&p=20542669&hilit=zwift#p20542669
  9. I have some friends who use Zwift and can ask a few questions if you'd like. I ride MTB and like the look of it as a winter indoor training tool but can't justify the money.

    pizza oven

If you want to cook just one pizza, it might take a while to heat up. My friend has an add-on for his gas BBQ and it cooks them very well in the matter of minutes. It's a great idea for a project though - you might have to invite a few friends around!
  11. It's not unreasonable to ask for some pictures and more details is it?
  12. For those who just want a link to follow: https://www.amazon.co.uk/s?k=Apeman+wildlife+camera&ref=nb_sb_noss_2
  13. You just need to re-size the photos with something like Windows Paint. Always wise to remove your mobile number as well and let people just PM you.
  14. Check out their Facebook page. Always something going on. https://www.facebook.com/groups/NX611JustJane/?fref=nf
  15. Lovely pics. Can't believe the Phantom is still flying. That's a Viet nam era warbird. I did RIAT about 3 years ago and enjoyed it. I also really enjoy Flying Legends at Duxford. No jets but lots of lovely sights, sounds and smells.
  16. Very nice - I do miss the Vulcan though.....
  17. He did mention gardens and pigeons. Not sure if he meant at the same time. Step son is away a lot and needs something sub 12 ftlb that is stand alone, on the cheap side, capable of killing pigeon at 25 yards max and is moderated. For infrequent garden use to be grabbed and used when necessary. Is there such a thing? Thoughts, please. Many thanks. Also - you would need to justify it under GL. This is where a lot of people used to shoot one in their garden or `one for the pot` and assume that they were covered under the old GL. It was never intended for that and is partly why Packham challenged it as not being fit for purpose. People have always done it and probably still will.
  18. Most entry level springers should be good for the job. I had a Hatsan 65 and it was actually pretty good. I think the 55 is .177 and the 65 is .22

    Best vacuum

Got a Dyson DC25 Animal Lightweight 10 years ago and still going okay. Just need to change/clean filters regularly. Bit worried a £600 Dyson only lasted 2 years. Warantee? Miele always make good stuff. Not sure if a Henry would filter pet hair/dust as much as you would want.

    Boris

It's a wierd feeling - rooting for Boris. I just saw his exchange with Corbyn today and it made me laugh. He put him down and added some theatre for good measure. He's got nothing to lose, a lot to gain and he's had 3+ years of being shown how not to do it. I'm happy to give him until 31st Oct. It's only 99 days.
  22. LOL! I'll see if I'm feeling creative.....
  23. My Missus did 2 things this morning that I never thought would happen: She discussed politics She said that we need to give Boris a chance as he is promising to deliver Brexit and has loaded the Cabinet accordingly. If he can achieve in 99 days what May failed to do - then well done. The EU say nothing has changed, so we go for No Deal? Never that simple I know. I'm not a big fan of Boris but can't stand Corbyn. Bojo is now Captain of the good ship GB, so let's see what happens. It can't get any worse - can it?
  24. Yeah - with hindsight we could/should have done that. We did think about some external steps. The cookapoo jumps in and out but the 28kg lab needs lifting and the other one is too old. I actually think a shower tray with a splashback would have been enough!
