If Obama's geography is anything like most Americans he probably wonders why we would need to re-fuel to get to some islands of the coast of Scotland!!

(having said that i do seem to remember a fair few in this country thinking the same thing back in the early eighties :good: )

They also lent us their runway on the ascension isles, and all the ground crew to run a team of victor tankers and vulcan bombers. They may well be neutral, but only in the sense that they didn't take up arms and fight alongside us, the logistical help they gave us was what won us the war. It's approx 8000 miles to the falklands, the ascension isles are about half way.

Read between the lines - as already stated our American cousins were neutral in the first conflict and aided us - lets face it, we can kick those dumb *** south Americans all together without the assistance of North America - If we do it now hopefully Brazil and the argies won't have a team to send to the world cup.

The US was always neutral on the Falklands.

Not behind the scenes I believe! refused to supply us ordinance if we bombed mainland Argentina they were instrumental in the problem as usuall :hmm:I think OIL has something to do with it  I trying to think of the publication that spills all pardon the pun, money exchanging hands for the exploration rights to the Argentinian goverment for the oil rights to the Falkland Islands

Alan

The US never banked upon our responce to the situation, and lets be honest without Maggie in charge I doubt we would have had one

They supplied a lot of our ordinance, We couldnt fire our 105 light guns for 2 years after the conflict we never had any ammo  we were sub calibre firing, it was easier to shout bang and louder lol They reckon they shot over 25 years worth off stored ammo just going down to the Falklands.

We were not able to resupply because of the distance quick enough, so shall we say the US assisted, South Africans told us to **** off, no we could not use Simons town naval base for essential repairs some thing to do with our embargo lol

I think the Americans helped us in the last conflict due to the French helping the Argentines by selling them anti-ship missiles, and we know what the Americans think of the French.

and what the French think of the British

and what the British think of the French :rolleyes: its a mixed up world we live in

I suppose it's worth bearing in mind we are as said stretched as it is and also we very nearly lost the falklands war last time.....

I can see why it would be better for the US to remain neutral, it could all get out of hand if everybody starts picking sides.

Regards,

there is the minor issue of why we're starting this when we are on our knees both from a military and financial aspect. Good old Gordon has his eye on oil revenues to help bail the country out. Argentina obviously dispute the ownership and watching us start to milk the area of oil was always going to inflame matters
