Guinea Fowl
As per title, I am in the market for a new BBQ and being South African I realised that there is going to be no way Ill be able to get a BBQ of decent size in this Country, so I decided I will have to settle for something a bit smaller. The requirements are: It must be of decent quality (not turn into a rust bucket after the first night it gets left out in the garden, by mistake), must have enough cooking space for some lamb chops a few steaks some chicken thighs and a meter or so of sausage at one time and most importantly it must work with fire and by real fire I mean, fire with smoke, none of that gay gas burning things ( there is only two types of gas I use, one type out of my ^%%&^% the other is to solder end feed fittings) I was looking at the Weber BBQ range, I know they are top quality but before opening my wallet I thought Ill ask here as some of you might have discovered a proper one that I am not aware of. Oh, and none of that DIY brick stuff as I am only renting at the moment, so when I move it will have to move to.

Here you go: http://www.forfoodsmokers.co.uk/acatalog/c...Smokin_Pro.html I have one of these, cast iron griddles, heavy steel construction. You can BBQ with charcoal in the main area or in the side firebox which enables you to cook indirectly (smoking) and then finish off on the grill. Cheers, Jon. poppythedog
Agreed, gas BBQs are the work of Satan, I just got one of these http://shopping.canoe.ca/shop/product--cat...Id_5189345.html from this place in Farnham http://www.thebbqshop.co.uk/index.html It's very solidly made & has adjustable height coal tray, front door for reloading or spreading coals, full depth removable base tray for cleaning, 2 base & 1 lid vents, thermometer in the lid etc etc. Pity it's so bloody freezing cold so it hasn't been used much yet. I fancy one of these but i've never seen one in the flesh and they look a bit flimsy in the pictures? http://www.drinkstuff.com/products/product.asp?ID=6843

V8landy
get a disposable one from Asda then throw it in bin afterwards, no cleaning and no mess ! For real Men a BBQ is like measuring/comparing the size of your manhood, something you have a lack of by the looks of it I agree with Killer pigeon, but as a real man you have to have the biggest and shinyest one going! I am going now to have a look in works stores for any bits I can make a BBQ out of, We have lots of nice shiney stainless steel tanks and pies of "man sized" BBQ parts. I will post when I get home tonight a picture of the patio wood burner I made from "scrap" at work. It is all SS,
artschool
i think we all know that the manliest bbq is a half steel barrel! the type they use a rugby clubs.
JonD
get a disposable one from Asda then throw it in bin afterwards, no cleaning and no mess ! Perfect for the traditional British BBQ, charcoal on the outside raw on the inside. The disposable ones normally don't stay hot enough for long enough and a lot of people put food on them too soon and add the smell of lighter fluid to the food. V8landy
As promised a pic of my home made wood burner, to give you an example of the "scrap" I get from work. PS the vice grips are no longer holding it togther, that was a work in progress pick. It has nicely blued the stainless all over, and for scale it stands floor to top at about 6 ft Edited May 11, 2010 by V8landy

Cosd
You want a BBQ you just need to ask a Greek man You haven't mentioned your budget but if you want s BBQ that's a decent size and last a lifetime, you need a stainless steel one. If you were in London I could tell you where they sell them. They are aproximately 1metre long and 450 wide, they come on a stand with wheels (can buy them without the stand), they have heat bricks inside so the charcoal lasts twice as long, you can either use a grill on them or they come with about 15 spits which fit short ways or three long spits which fit length ways on the BBQ, both options turn using a motor supplied. They cost about £300 with all the bits and pieces, but as I said, they will last longer than you! I've had mine for about 9 years and it's been left outside many times....nothing wrong with it at all. Edited May 11, 2010 by Cosd

Dibs
These seem alright. Just picked one up. Not sure how long it will last but big enough with two separate grills and charcoal trays. http://www.wickes.co.uk/Oil-Drum-BBQ/invt/158596
