Cranfield
My van has been done once on the drive diddies from norfolk according to forensics, Crumbs, I didn't realise just how clever these CSI types are. Lets be a bit sensible in the comments and suggestions , especially bearing in mind the current situation.
Bombadil
I can imagine it must be very scary having to wait for criminals to return, how do you know when it's safe to leave your property? I sad state of affairs. The people who reoffend in the under 12 month period are often career criminals. They will continue this behaviour throughout life, and it's obviopsu the short sentance, often in a low security prison is little of a deterrent. The american 3 strike system has caused some technical problems but this is rediculous, simply allowing people to go back in and back out, knowing full well it is entirely likely they will commit a crime again is appalling. Doing so under the logic that burgalry or more petty crimes does not warrant a large sentance. This type of crime will always persist and to be honest, there is nothing you can do about it without a large amount of people demanding action. And where as you may see the re offending rates of 4years as more as maybe comforting in comparison to the lower sentances, these are more likely to be the big crimes: rape and murder. Is it really worth letting 'reformed' rapists and murderers out, knowing that nearly 1/5 of them will commit a similar crime? A bit off topic i know, but i find these statistics shocking. SSS
Get a dog. It's the only thing that deters them I have got a dog, and the first noise outside normally makes her bark, but last night, she was upstairs sat infront of the fan Now technically you didn't actually 'catch' a burglar, more 'disturbed' one? Technically, I didnt catch him, you are right, I don;t know what I would have done, it really scared me to be honest!

stevethevanman
I really wouldnt face up to a burglar, might be alot more than one round the corner? Probably got bars, or sharp screwdrivers with them, that they probably in the heat of it wouldnt think twice to bash or stab you with I would get a light, but try to mount it HIGH, so they cant just throw sometihng over it, or push it to looking at the ground, also dont run a cable up the wall to it, or it will be snip ..try to get some decent locks with backing that cant be smashed through, or pulled out, a bolting system would work from the inside if you can, but the standard garage locks are very poor indeed. If its a padlock type affair, then get a good non bolt cutter shearable padlock, and attack it to a GOOD plate system, else they will rip it right off with some leverage, make sure the plates are thickish Something that gives hassle is good, as when looking up a job thats generally what decides it for them, how much noise will they make?...what are they going to get if they do it?...and how long it will take? You want to make sure if they have to break something it makes noise, and you want to have strong locks so they have to stand for a while, they wont want to be openly breaking in for too long...make sure nothing valuable is left on display also. Tug
Dogs aren't always good, the ****** kicked hell out of a big mastiff on one of the farms I shoot at and the poor ****** cowers away from new people now. Always make sure that security is up to scratch, lights are only good if you have neighbours who investigate them coming on. Decent locks, strong doors and a bloody loud alarm system. JackReady
Just get an ALARM fitted. There are many ways to ALARM a security system. Both by means of simple mechanical devices and electronically. Ensure that the use of such ALARM devices is well posted and clearly seen and ensure that an ALARM makes as large a noise and creates as big as disturbance as possible. Whilst at all times ensuring public safety. We wouldn't wont the naughty men who came to steal your possessions being injured in any way now would we. IMO the sooner we have an introduction of the US Castle Laws over here the better. Castle Doctrine
Brad93
about 15 years ago my mum and dads house got broken into, and at the time they bred Dobermans and was crossing a big american dog with an english bitch, the outcome was some very tall and muscular pups. Anyway these burglars broke in and used laundry bags to push the dogs out of the way and locked them in the kitchen. There was blood everywhere where the dogs had been at em, up the walls ceiling etc. They got off with a load of cash that was waiting to go to the bank and aload of gold jewellery. Thing is my dad had seen some ***** sorts hanging around the area! So they do come back. Funny how the police didnt get anything from the blood? rocksaplenty
We stayed over at my wifes aunties house over the weekend. On Saturday, during the day a ***** came around asking for scrap, my wife answerd the door and then refused to leave. My wife called for me and he shot off before I could get downstairs. Later that night (about 10pm) I was sitting in the dining room finishing off a bottle of wine when i saw a movement outside. I lept up and ran full pelt around the back of the house to cut him off, I came round the corner, "right you *******" ... it was my wife's aunty watering the garden, shes 89! oops
BattleFieldRelics
With regards to police turning up, state on the phone that the offender has something in his hand, you can't quite see it properly, but it looks like a gun. They will turn up pretty quick and it also backs up the homeowner 'reasonable force law'.
death from below
With regards to police turning up, state on the phone that the offender has something in his hand, you can't quite see it properly, but it looks like a gun. They will turn up pretty quick and it also backs up the homeowner 'reasonable force law'. From your comments you appear to be a sensible bloke so best ignore daft advice like above - It's a horrendous situation to encounter and you did the right thing - some of the comments on here from macho keyboard warriors make me laugh - ~I'd do this and that - I'd do a Rambo etc etc - complete drivel - I feel for people/farmers living in isolated places - to find someone on your property, never mind your house, would be enough to make many a person up sticks back to more populated areas. peek-at
Just a tip............. if you suspect that these ******* have sussed out your place, look on the road outside your house to see if there are any 'markings' They sometimes leave signs for eachother on the roads indicating what premises are worth burgling and which are not. If you see anything - remove it. Also have a word with your local beat officer and ask about shed alarms/security devices as a lot of forces supply them free ( a bit like the fire service with smoke alarms) cheers
Pastiebap
I have to agree with some of the dog comments, whilst they can make alot of noise and alert you, they aren't invincible. Many many moons ago, my Great Grandfather was robbed at gun point, the scrotes were told where the safe was, but to watch the dog, so they opened the door and blew the dogs brains out.
