JMW
Hi My certificate went back several weeks ago for a variation and has failed to reappear. I would like to shoot on my permissions but this will mean that I will be transporting firearms and shotgun without my licence to hand. My question is do I need to carry my licence or is it just the norm to do so. I dont know how long it will take for my licence to come back. Thanks Jon
apache
There's no requirement to carry it, but I do. Simpler if stopped. Just get on with what you are doing. Have you a photocopy?
steve_b_wales
You don't need to carry your licence with you. If you get stopped by the police while carrying your guns, then the police can impound them until you show your licence. This would be a rare thing though. Most police can check your details via a phone call etc, to prove who you are and that you have a licence. Steve.

Ive got the certificate numbers but no copy, didnt think it would take long to get it back, I will take a copy next time it goes in for variation/vreplacement though. I do normally keep it on me. apache
I have colour photocopies of all pages of both my SGC and FAC. Saves arguments if it comes back vastly different and gives you something to carry when you send the original off.
sg1
I would enquire about colour photocopies as I was told by the FEO over the phone that colour copies could be seen as 'attempted forgery'!!! , I suppose you COULD write 'COPY' accross it or something similar. Sounded strange to me too but then, who'm I to argue with my FEO??

My region has some special paper, when you photocopy the FAC/SGC the word Fraud or Forgery (can't remember which) becomes boldly visible in the background. I always carry a photocopy in the gunslip pocket!
CZ550Kevlar
I hold a SGC and FAC, so when my FAC goes in for variation etc then i at least have a SGC with me which is at least something, also my permission letters are printed on the back of copies of my FAC. hunters_return
I got pulled up last night while lamping, by a policman on a bike of all things. he ask if i had permission to be where i was and if it was an airgun i was useing. I told him it was a rim fire and i had permission to be on that land. I showed him my permission slip and he didnt even ask to see my cert or any form of id. Thanks Jon the pnc holds all your details, the cops can check there and then if you are liscenced. but when you get your liscence back it may be a good idea to get a photo copy if you have to send it off again

Vince Green
ALWAYS copy your licence before you send it off. Not only because if the reason in this thread but because it can come back with errors on it.

Norrie
I carry notarised copies of my FAC and Shotgun licences...., notarised copies can be done by any lawyers ....its stamped.."Certified a true copy of the original" and is then signed by the soliciter....cost is usually about £25 per page, on each licence.....BUT as my daughter works in the lawyers office, all it cost was a bottle of decent whisky.... I also carry copies of my permissions....never needed them just yet...but just in case.. Edited September 11, 2010 by Norrie

Do what you will and choice is our prerogative, but frankly I see absolutely no point in getting a notarised copy, all it says is this is a real copy! One look at the picture on the FAC/SGC will confirm if it is you, and one radio call will confirm from PNC/National Firearms Register you are legit. Many Police Officers have never seen a FAC/SGC and even if shown one would radio to check anyway, I struggle to believe they are going to be interested whoever notarised it! ATB!!
