Marcus
No.......not with rice and chips Just back from a trip to Devon, I was sittting outside when this squirrel apeared about 6 foot away from me. The front end was red, the rear end was grey Im not sure if I saw a red or grey squirrel. Is it possible that they had inter-bred ? Never seen this before, dont even know if they got any reds in Devon

Beardo
i'm sure it's just a grey - sometime they have quite a red coat, i've seen a few

webber
I'm sure that rsrjerry will correct me if I'm wrong, but the two species do not interbreed; as Nick has said some greys do show a hint of red. If you had been lucky enough to see more reds you would have instantly been able to recognise the difference. So an opportunity missed, but better safe than sorry. Please remember to add any greys that you kill to the PW running count for grey squirrels; this year our count does seem to be down somewhat. webber
silverhawk
Ive seen a black one i wasnt to sure what to do when i saw it or if it was even legal to shoot so i left it. Blackbart
Greys look red at this time of year(if that makes sense)but they dont look the same and if like webber said you had seen more reds you would be able to tell them apart pretty quickly.Dont think there are any reds left in Devon. Dekers
I have no idea why but the Grey does often show quite a lot of red, but still looks like a Grey!

njc110381
The ears are a dead giveaway. If you see a Red you'll know it for sure! Early in my shooting days I saw a few Greys that were Red and got quite excited. I soon learned they weren't what I thought they could have been.
