may sound silly but stay with me

Out an another early morning sit out looking for charlie this morning and with my face vale on i kept misting the binos with my warm breath so had to hold it as i panned round. Not very happy to find i max out at about 2o seconds when i used to be able to swim under watre for about a min.......... shocking and perhaps due to being over weight and a bit older, so what is normal :hmm:

I swim a lot, so can still hold my breath fairly well, I can swim a length underwater, which is obviously using oxygen more than if I was to just sit here and try.

My daughter appears to be a anaerobic organism, or she has some strange physical defect that allows her to breath out of her bumhole.

It may be in the Kyska gene as my sister can 'cyclic or circular' breathe (IE keep blowing whilst breathing in through her nose) playing brass instruments, that got the boys attention I can tell you.

I just did it too...1 minute 4 secs, but I only stopped smoking about 10 months ago after a 20 a day habit so I thought that wasn't bad, I can quite easily swim a length under water but that includes the 1 minute 4 secs and an exhale! Which gives another 15 secs or so! :good:

I used to try and hold my breath driving through the Blackwall tunnel. The air is pure filth and the bonnet on my beetle didnt fit very well and hence acted like a ram jet. I was getting quite good and would try different breathing techniques prior to entry. I stopped doing this after nigh blacking out and battering the driver side down the tunnel wall. Not big, not clever, not to be repeated.

Try doing it the other way - ie instead of breathing in and holding it - breathe out and then see how long you can wait before you have to take a breath. Apparently this is so somthing to do with CO2 - the longer the better (obviously) although you are supposed to take a breath when you feel 'discomfort'. Its part of a breathing notion coined by a Russian Doctor who suggests that a lot of diagnosis' of modern breathing issues (Asthma) in particular are in fact CO2 defficiency caused primarily from breathing in through your mouth instead of your nose ie overbreathing. Give it a try - there are ways to improve your CO2 tolerance if its an issue.

Edited to correct info....

If I'm just in the bath I can manage a minute plus but if I'm trying to swim at the same time I can't hold it anywhere near as long. Freaks my wife out though if I'm submerged when she wanders into the bathroom!

my mrs is the same, she says it wierd to lay under water holding my breath.
