Couple of questions if you don’t mind

Directed at the Lancashire, Manchester, Bolton, Merseyside, Cheshire etc etc clay shooters

Where do you shoot, and what do you shoot?

i.e what grounds do you go to? And what discipline do you shoot, DTL, Skeet, and Sporting etc

Are you a member of the ground (if they offer that)

And what do you pay for membership?

what is the cost to shoot and at how many clays?

What days do you shoot?

through the week? only Sundays? Every second Sunday?

How far do you travel to go to the shoot?

in your opinion how many people shoot at each ground when you go

I appreciate anyone’s input on the above

Thanks Steve

I have been shooting Trap at A6 Clay Target Club on Saturdays but have been paying for lessons. It is about a 30 minute drive for me and no I am not a member.

I have also shot sporting at Catton Hall (really enjoyed that ground). I shot there on a Wednesday and it was about a 45 minute drive again I am not a member. The clay prices are on the website I think (can't remember what I paid sorry).

I will be going to Manchester Clay Shooting more from now on to persue sporting, again the prices and location are on their website (haven't been yet to confirm the information)

I have noticed most of the clubs seem to open on the same days being Wednesdays and some Saturday/Sunday. Would be nice if some opened on the alternative days so I could shoot around my working needs :)

I shoot registered Sporting on Sundays. Occasional Skeet or Sportrap.

I'm not a club member anywhere and shoot all over the North and Midlands.

Mostly Catton Hall, Shugborough, Kingsley Moor, Doveridge, Fauxdegla, Manchester CSC, Kegworth, Coniston, Spennymoor and NOECTC

Occasionall others and occasionally down South.

I pay about £30-£36 for 100 clays except Manchester which is cheaper because it's not competition, I think it's £26 now.

Mostly about 50-60 miles each way, occasionally up to 90/100

Between 100 and 200 people shooting most of these things.

I havnt but they are not in Rixton!!!!

Out of Manchester down east lancs road. Go through the daft junction to Leigh when you turn left to go right. Carry on the east lancs through the next set of lights and turn next left at the sand quarry.

Keep left past the quarry entrance and turn right into and past large red brick farmhouse with moat.

Shoot is a few hundred yards on right.

Not the most challenging course but at least I can hit a few.

Next shoot a week on Sunday 13th. And every other sun after.

God knows it's in the middle of a field.

It took me half an hour to find it the first time with my head out of the window listening for gunshots.

Have a look on rixtoncpc.co.uk but the map is pants.

Now then about some pigeon shooting in the area.............

As Acid House says Rixton Clay Club isn't in Rixton???. They have a website http://rixtoncpc.co.uk/

which shows how to get there. It's OK for what it is a classic "Straw Baler" but it's quite pricey

unless you join the club (v cheap, you are in pocket after about 2 or 3 rounds). The shoot has been going for donkeys years on that site, you found that it shoots alternative weeks to Jed the Sheds (Star Gun Club at Llym)

and a lot of shooters would go to both to the exclusion of all others! Don't know if this is still the case though.

As to the original question, basically the same as Chard, only shoot English Sporting, FITASC and occasionally Sportrap.

If you want a really good example of a 50 bird straw bale shoot try Rishton near Blackburn or the Dolphin

near Preston. Those two hold 50 or 30 bird comps every week but if you want the best non registered

100 birder (but it's only practice) then try Blackpool Gun Club they show some of the best targets you'll see anywere

If you want directions drop me a pm and I'll send them to you.

Also as above but I am a member of Manchester CSC, cost £70 (10% loyalty added to your card and a discount on clays I think its £22 instead of £26).....I also shoot Manchester some wednesdays.

As above but without the Skeet bit ;)

Not true you shot a couple of rounds of skeet last time we shot a Wednesday at Manchester and I did detect the faint odour of stale wee last sunday when you drove :lol::D

You're right about that Wednesday - Ainsley still owes me for a round of skeet

I like the try-before-you-buy thing. I've used it at Doveridge a few times.

I tried out Blaser F3, Beretta SV10 and some Benelli semi auto ****** thing that I hated.

It was good to try them out, if only to eliminate them from future purchase plans

Where do you shoot, and what do you shoot?

Rishton, Blackpool, Worsley, Kelbrook, Coniston, Doveridge, Bobbin Mill, A6 at Westhoughton, Toplands at Preston, the Boar at Tintwistle mainly. I shoot DTL occasionally, compak sporting and sporting.

Are you a member of the ground - only at Rishton.

And what do you pay for membership - £25 per year. Sporting is £9 for 50 bird and 25 compak is £5 - at Rishton - others dearer.

What days do you shoot - Wednesday, Thursday and every Sunday.

How far do you travel to go to the shoot - maximum of 200 mile round trip.

In your opinion how many people shoot - I am not sure what you mean - is this at one ground or at each or overall?
