You may also have noticed that the BBC sensationalised the report by not including the laws regarding the actual ownership of shotguns.

This is typical of the BBC where anything to do with guns is concerned, they only comment in a negative way.

Here is the report from the BBC website:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-12840557

Just heard the BBC radio 2 news, sensationalist report comes before news on the economy, so biased, gotta question why we pay our licence when it only represents the views of the ban everything brigade, makes them feel better but does not make the world a better or safer place.

Children under 10 issued shotguns.

Really? Is it only children who are issued shotguns upon being granted a licence, or are we all supposed to get one?

Typical BBC BS reporting. If I was Danny Shaw, I'd be ashamed to report such junk!

I've just complained. The initial headline 'Children under 10 issued shotguns' is very misleading and when you read the article it fails to provide a balanced view of the subject. I wish they'd stop trying to cover a subject which is currently under investigation and isn't a problem except in peoples eyes who don't have all the facts.

I wonder out of the people under 18 who are issued with a SGC, how many incidents are reported concerning them? Very few to none I'd expect. The comment about the ACF was very relevant, having been a member between 13-18 I handled more weapons than anyone with a SGC would be able to without a licence. Some of the people who I was in the ACF with I wouldn't trust with a fountain pen but they were very safe with weapons.

Its very one sided and miss leading .It doesnt say they have to be supervised at all times .

it sort of does although is factually incorrect:

BBC article:

Under current laws, there is no minimum age for applying for a shotgun certificate in the UK. The decision to grant a licence rests with a senior police officer.

But when using a shotgun, children must be supervised by an adult until they turn 15.

I thought it was an over 21 to supervise ?

Dont do it.

They will be on the defensive and send a professional interviewer to turn it the way they want it. Contact BASC immediately and get a press officer to do the interview. Trust me on this one you may come out of it looking like a complete gun wielding idiot. Not good for any one of us.

The response to my complaint:

Dear Mr Pigeon Watch Member, Thank you for your e-mail and as you note the headline has been changed and we are sorry that the initial version was misleading. The story is based on new information which we do think was a matter of public interest. We don't think the report suggests that young people who fit into this category are running around committing crimes; rather it notes that there is a debate about children of this age being issuedwith certificates. The story also notes:

........ Last October, the Commons Home Affairs Committee reported that a "largenumber" of young people enjoyed shooting in a safe and responsiblemanner........ Thank you for contacting the BBC, and kind regards, BBC News website team.

on bbc radio 2 i think it was, at around 7 am this morning, i am sure i heard the report say that shotguns were required for sporting use but also as crop protection quote ''on badly run farms'' i dont know if anyone else heard this ? ................. i am sure its what was said and i find it unbelievable that a corporation like the BBc can make such a ludicrous statement.

anyone know if you can some how find and rerun the report, dont think its on iplayer or anything ??????
