Cannon
I'd be very careful with them, but the odd cabinet mark is inevitable
CZ550Kevlar
I only buy synthetic guns now, the only wood gun is my O/U.
rimfire4969
I try and treat my guns very well, but at the end of the day they are tools and if i am crawling around with one or pushing though brambles with another they are going to get the odd knock. Thats why i dont shoot with a Purdy, that and the 10 grand i dont have.
pat g
Have to say i tend to try and be very careful so as to avoid knocks and scrapes, however the inevitable does happen. My shooting bud Katzenjammer thinks i'm over careful but they cost alot so i try and look after them the best i can. Another reason why i use my side by side "knock about gun" for walking about and hide shooting.Solid, reliable and i'm not too bothered if she did get a scrape. Avoided it up to now though. At the end of the day they are tools i suppose. ATB Pat
figgy
Ive just bought a fully carpet lined ten gun safe for three guns just so i have less chance of dinging my gun on the cabinet. as my other smaller one was a pig to get in and out of. Cleaned every time its used and wiped with oily duster cloth if touched for any reason. Mates love it if i put there gun in my cabinet for storage over night after shooting and going onto the pub after as i won't put a dirty gun in my gun safe, hence one sparkling clean gun next day when picked up. IF it gets knocked at all put a fiver in the cabinet every time you do, when you have got enough get the wood refinished ATB figgy

Durham-laddie
In the past I have been overheard talking to my gems, I stroke them and rub them with oil and keep the warm and toastie. However, when I shoot them they turn there noses up and refuse to hit anything. Now, they are going to get slapped around a bit, dents-a-plenty will sort them out
bakerboy
I try to keep my guns in as good condition as possible , but marks are unavoidable especially if you have a full cabinet . Many years ago a friend suggested placing each gun in a long sock , football sock in the South , or in the North a Rugby sock , and this has helped in reducing the knocks, scratches etc to zero . Nothing looks worse than a knocked about Gun .

I've told you to take them off cos it looks like a hairdressers car! Of course guns are tools and some handtools cost as much! The real reason is because you are a titewad mate, tighter than a titewad Yorkie

Redgum
It seems the gun safe is a regular stock dinker for most of us, I have stuck draught extruding foam around the edges to minimise this risk. Nothing like getting your first major dink in a new stock, time is the best healer and you will eventually look back on it fondly..
cooter
All my guns are working tools so knocks are inevitable. I let the dinks build up, then either have a go at fixing them, or buy a new stock. If it's the barrel it can be reblued. But I am very careful with the scope. Spara Dritto
dent it then wax it, after 5 years or so, your gun will have a pattern 10x prettier and more vibrent but also will have a lot more history then an undented gun, look at all old waxed tables. the wax eventually fills the holes addding loads of character to the wood. njc110381
I use mine hard. They get dented and scratched, soaking wet etc. I clean them when I get in but the odd dent or scratch just reminds me of the times I've had using it. My combi has a dent on the stock from when it slipped off of my shoulder when I was dragging a really nice Roe up a stoney track. Every time I see the dent I remember that day so it's not all bad. Guns are working tools to me and they get used. I never buy anything I can't afford to drop and I'm never bothered when they get battle scars. MartB
Re cabinet dings, I use old socks to pad the dividers. Saves a lot of pain. Wood dents/scratches in the field are a reminder of good and not so good times. When I get an old gun and look over the wood, I wonder what good times the last owner had with it. If there are no marks then I wonder if I should buy it in the first place. Maybe it was a rubbish gun to start with. Why else would it be so perfect?

The Duncan
I was gutted when my HW100S' stock got a scratch in the field as the stock is truly gorgeous. However its a tool not an ornament, so I got over it :o Now I'm bricking it about the Beretta arriving! Hadn't even contemplated dents and scratches on it! Will be padding the gun safe before its arrival now and will defo be keeping the Sabel for shoots that are likely to be a bit more than rough. Mark-70
I'm really fussy about my guns, even my .22lr which is synthetic stocked is treated carefully to avoid dents and scrapes. With my shotgun I'm even worse! Never put them down in the field and do my best to never get them wet. As some other members have said I use a large safe for more space which helps alot, never put an uncleaned gun back in the safe and I also wipe the gun over again if it is touched for any reason! Ever so slightly over the top I agree! But I'm sure I'm not alone! Lol.
