The Duncan
Hi Folks, I and a friend are gagging to hunt (and more's to the point) eat wild boar. Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK where you can do this without being fleeced for the privilege? MAny thanks! Duncan
243win
Try the Solway stalker on the Stalking Directory site. His boar prices are reasonable and his hit rate is very high. Good luck.

Mungler
Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK where you can do this without being fleeced for the privilege? No mate Best bet is to go abroad - you will find you can probably get flights, hotel and 3 full days shooting abroad with no trophy fees for the same price as 1 day here give or take trophy fees. Watch out for the trophy fees - that's proper pants down territory.
berties
I am sure there was a chap last year on here in the Devon, Dorset area ,pretty pricey but I bet it's a great experience ,can any one else remember

scolopax
There are probably no more than a few hundred wild boar at present split between around five main populations and a handful of smaller ones. No many really when you consider every man and his dog seems to want to go out a shoot one.
dodeer
The above is very true! Too many people going after them and they don't respond well to pressure. I would hazzard a guess and say less than 5 were shot in Dorset/Devon this year and that prob took 60+ outings.
Redgum
Unfortunatly the poor boar are being hammered, with no close season and night shooting they really do not have much of a chance do they. In my area the numbers were growing nicely and the animal, that was originally present long before fallow, was extending its range. Bad publicity, lack of public knowledge and idiots within the forestry commission will soon mean that they will no longer roam our woodlands. Psyxologos
In continental Europe wildboad is legaly shot (with shotgun using slugs as well as with rifle) four months a year, if I am not mistaken. The seasons differ from country to country, and you tend to see the wildboar population adapting to that and crossing national borders according to where shelter is. Quite amazing... scolopax
Alot of the boar are shot now with a lamp at a feeding station, night vision is sometimes used aswell, sounds alot like shooting fish in a barrel, no field craft necessary, just the right ground, patience and a few sacks of grain and maize topped off with a bucket of molasses. Maybe exciting but I struggle to see whats sporting about it.

Why not be done with it and poison the lot of em.
Vince Green
Germany is the place, and from where you live its not that bad a drive. Check out the adverts in the comics. If you don't mind driving further the more East you go the cheaper it gets. Its no worse than driving to Scotland or SW. The Duncan
Thanks for all replies guys - Germany is now looking more favourable; at least I speak the language and I hope the drive is worth it.

I've looked on some german sites and so far I'm looking at the thick-end of 1200 quid plus travel etc so a bit rich for my blood at the mo! I'm sure if I actually make a few calls etc over there I can do better. This looks like a bit of a project. Also I'd want to take a 3.5 Tonner to brind back the bacon so to speak as I'm more a practical than trophy hunter. Want to eat what I cull. WTS. kdubya
seems you could do worse than take a trip to berlin? at least when they say they have boar they really do have boar? KW http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-13251805
EMcC
That is what annoys me, they say there are not enough hunters but those that want to shoot wild Boar are charged lots of money so preventing quite a few from doing it.
HDAV
My cousin was working in northern Germany and the local lads used to go after boar on the weekends apparently the ticks get you long before you get a boar and you have to stick it out. Might be worth an email to the DJV (German equivalent of the BASC?)
