Therapeutic day on the corvids and rabbits

Well folks, my father finally lost his battle with ill health last Saturday and passed away in his sleep, never a good way for this to happen but it was a quiet and dignified way to end 82 years, and providing for our family, he will be missed and hope he has met up again with mum which is all he ever wanted after her death.

As I have no brothers or sisters, I have been in Wales this week trying to sort out the house and funeral which will be next thursday so when I had a phone call from one of the guys I shoot with ( him in the photo) asking if I fancied a day away from it all I reasoned things could wait for a day or two. so drove back to Hampshire on Wednesday eve, and thursday saw us at the pig farm, a warm and sunny day with a good breeze provided just the tonic required, it was great to forget things for a while, enjoy the fresh air and banter that only comes from shooting with a friend.

After dispatching 39 corvids and 4 pigeon, the farmer picked up a sack of crows to hang on the fence which he is very keen on, we had the photos then went to another permission for a walk around and had 27 rabbits, a couple of freshly cooked bacon sarnies and a pint or two on the way home, now its back to the task in hand of sorting things out and organising the funeral, but will hang on to the memories of a great day out until I can get out next time.

Its times like these that shooting really does make the difference :)

Sorry for your loss mate-I was dealt the same hand three years ago.

Can I make one small suggestion-as a sentimental gesture, buy a small item thats shooting related maybe a pocket knife or a nice leather cartridge bag and let it remind your of your father when out shooting. I have a treasured hip flask that comes with me on game shoots and for me, just gives a nod to my old man as an absent gun.

all the best

I can understand how you feel Doc, I had to put mum into a home a few weeks back she has alzhimers, it was great to get into the field and take in the surroundings and have a few shots. sorry to hear of your loss, hope your week goes without too many hic ups,

Sorry to hear about your sad loss Doc! It's always hard when you loose a member of your family but you sound like you are holding together and handling it well. It's times like this when you find where your real friends are and it certainly sounds like you have a good one there mate!

It's highly commendable to be seen by others to be strong in these circumstances but don't let it stop you from grieving in private!

My thoughts are with you and your family my friend!
