.17hmr ammo

Recommended Posts

have been using hornday v max red tips as i got a brick of 500 when i got my gun,

now i am getting near then end of them i phoned up my local shop to ask what they have,

he said v max,winchester,remington,cci,and federal,

was thinking of trying some different rounds as with the v max i get ok groups but seem to get the odd flier every few shots.

with the .22lr i tried 7 different types at £3.50 a box of 50 i could live with that but the hmr are £10+ per 50 i didnt want to buy too many different types so was wondering if you guys had any good or bad views on the mentioned rounds

many thanks colin

Stick with Vmax, they tend to be the cheepest anyway and there is very little or no difference between any of them.

cracking timing colin had you posted before the butchery night I'm sure we could have found you a selection

Mine likes Hornadys most but remingtons are fine they are the only ones I've used that seem any different and appear to have a bit more punch to them. May be in the mind but the effects look like it.

i did think about asking before mon eve but didn't want people to think i was on the scrounge if you know what i mean,

i think red tips were the cheapest so may stick with them just thought i may eliminate those odd fliers

I completely agree, I use remingtons, and I'm also sure there is a difference at the hurty end, they seem to do more damage.

i picked up 300 hornday red tips today from sporting targets they were £10 per box

went for a drive to the gun cupboard northhants they had some remingtons so got one box £12.50

went out this eve for a few hours put 10 into a target then went on to shoot 14 bunnies

both on target and bunnies i couldn't see any major difference so i think i shall stick with the reds

thanks chaps

my red tips do the same...two shots almost touching and one that is a good 1/2 to 3/4 inch flyer occasionally more...i am coming to the end of the red tips and have bought 50 winchester to try them next [they are the only other ones my closest shop sell]

still ok, but doesnt inspire complete confidence!!

Help me out, where do you get them at those prices, especially Winchester at £8.50?

Cheers

It would be a bit far for you to travel and he only gets them in if you order them but I think I will put in a big order as they look and shoot just the same as anything else. I will ring him in the morning and if your ever up this way.....

What are people paying regionally for Hornady 17grn V-Max lately?

Just a quick straw poll.

£14 here in RFD's, or £11 at gamefairs and a couple of smaller outlets.

£10 cash and carry cartridges @ the Midland - sadly I only had space for 100 :( It's £13/50 at my RFD

The Remmington .22 subs @ £27/500 were bloody cheap!

I'm allowed 1000 buy, and I would be happy to get that many, or more.... tomorrow as well at £8.50!

Cheers
