if the weather forecasters are predicting an early cold spell :hmm: then best see if you can get hold of a cheap Barbie as it will turn out to be "unseasonably hot"

love this bit from them "and said that Scotland and the North should prepare for the worst of it" some budding sherlocks at work there eh! bunch of best guesser's and pessimists,

not known to get it wrong are they?

That's interesting KW. When I read Positive Weather Solutions response on their website to the papers saying that they (PWS) had predicted a BBQ summer, they totally rebuked it. The head guy was adamant that there was nothing in their forecast to suggest anything of the sort. They had predicted that June & July would be a mixed bag of weather all round with August POSSIBLY offering the best of the summer weather. Nothing mentioned about a washout or a heatwave.

Having said that, their forecast for October only suggests some night frosts with the temperature getting down to about -2.

I think it was someone on the Professional pilots network a few years ago worked out that a year after the launch of the met office's new £33m super computer they were 1% more likely to forecast the next days weather than if you simply looked out of the window and assumed it would be the same the next day and 1% LESS likely than some old girl who lived in southend and had a bit of seaweed or something. And as for long range forecasts you'd have a similar result if you stood outside with your finger in the air and your eyes shut and had a guess.

Nothing against the met office, its just virtually impossible because of the amount of variables, its doubtful if we'll ever have the technology to do it reliably.

Obviously a lot of posters on here were not born before 1962-3 - now we were talking bad winters and I can just remember 1947 - so bring it on I am prepared - Got full set of steel wheels with new snow tyres on.

I can just remember 1947,my dad took me on his shoulders round to the local sports ground, and the snow was about 6ft deep in places.

In 1962/3 I was working at Morphy-Richards in St Marys Cray, and rode my motorcycle to work every day (18miles each way) I was frozen by the time I got there, but, the girls used to help me out of my motorcycle gear, quite often not stopping at that :o, happy days
