Hi Guys,

Off to Las vegas for two weeks in november and was wondering if there was anything i should be keeping an eye out for?

I know there is a bass pro shop within a reasonable distance and the last one i went to in florida was a mecca for all things shooting/hunting related!

Any one been recently and got some good tips?

I know already i am getting some duck and goose calls!

The Bass Pro is on Dean Martin and Blue Diamond, not very far from the airport and being a chain you will find a lot of the same stuff as at other Bass Pro shops.

There are other shops, one called Accuracy Gun Store has some reloading and other odds and ends, but it is a small ramshackle place. Another store out near Henderson looks interesting, called Spurlocks, I think I will go there next time.

I'll be there around the same time as you I think, working, but hoping to get a little time off.

A good tip is take everything out of its original packaging and if asked say you took it with you.

I have made loads of trips to the US and brought things back every time.

Twice I have been stopped at Customs UK for a random check and fortunately the $500 worth of fishing reels I had were loaded with line (they sell them like that in the US) , not in their boxes and they believed that I had taken them with me, otherwise I could have been made to pay duty on them.

I think they see items on the security XRays and tip off Customs, things like optics could attract attention, I doubt clothing would.

At least the limit on value went up a few years back. It was stuck at around £135 or so for ages, and is now somewhere around £345.

That gives you £345 worth (need to check the exact figure) that you can have free of duty. If you do bring in a lot more than that, and get caught in an attempt to do so undeclared you forfeit the duty free portion.

I would echo Cranfields advice - make sure that everything is without packaging and new clothes worn/dirty worn when passing through customs.

Last time i was in the states i bought a hard airline style breakdown case and brought it through as one of my two pieces of hold luggage with what small and flat items i could put in it. When I unpacked I found a "with compliments slip" from the US customs inside the case which explained thath they had opened it to inspect. I Bet the yank inspecting it did some headscratching as to why a gun case was being put on a plane with no guns in it! :hmm::lol:

I'd thoughly recommend going to a Cabelas Store while you are there- man shopping at its best - even if it means a couple of hours driving !

Check out these guys, they have dove (Not pigeon, but easily converted with some white paint) and crow decoys from Triple Play. Cheap if you don´t have to pay the duty and UPS on them :good:

I recently bought the Triple Play item from this company. The owner is great, and wrote 'Gift, Happy Birthday' on the package for me, so that I could avoid any duty.

I had the dove one, but very easily converted it to crow, by removing the inserts in the dove decoys, and fixing them to full bodied crows. :good:

Very much depends on the area, if there is no Duck or Geese in the area then calls will be mail order. They are very much more seasonal in thier stores than we are the basic phylosophy being stack it high sell it cheap move it on. Here it tends to be buy in a couple and mark them up so high that it will become cheap enough to sell in time with inflation. Our friends over the pond are major consumers who cannot seem to be without the latest thing - bodes better for thier economy than ours

"Women" with an adams apple and don't ask anyone where you can buy some fags....

i did that exact thing when i was there. went into a shop that seemed to sell everything and uttered that line "excuse mate, do you sell fags??" quickly learnt to change that expression to 'Marlboro red please!!'
