mickmep
if you want to buy new a winchester sx3 is a nice gun for a good price. if budget doesnt stretch to that a secondhand 391 beretta, in my opinion worth the extra over a cheaper beretta 303. both the beretta's above will still be worth what you pay for them when its time to sell. P~MX
for many years I'd have advised you to a Beretta of any model especially a 303 But now after 2 years shootin a Browning Maxus I can't say strongly enough how brilliant they are, fast & easy to use... Underdog
All of the above but don't forget a Browning B80! Brill auto, Beretta action! Underdog.
Whitebridges
The only time I use a semi auto these days is in a pigeon hide on my own. Browning B2000. At least 20 years old and faultless for the job IMHO.

Montefeltro
Benelli make fantastic autos, very very easy to clean (inertia recoil) and no gas piston to worry about. I've fired about 2500 rounds through mine and the ONLY time it didn't eject was when I tried my luck with a 21g load. Its a light gun and easy on the shoulder. It also likes shooting Winchester Double X Magnum loads (56g)! Not so easy on the shoulder or ears though Mines a left handed Montefeltro 3" chamber. jackinbox99
Depends what you mean by cheap. I use a Beretta AL391 and cant fault it. Its held its value since I bought it and never misses a beat. But, it may be a bit over the price you are looking for.

Ive witnessed a few people on clay shoots having problems with the Maxus  lot of cash for a fussy gun in my opinion  Anyone own or shot a Benelli Vinchi? And if so how does it handle,is it easy to assemble etc (modular design) BB Edited September 23, 2011 by Bluebarrels
Simon123
Winchester SX3 if your budget allows, absolute floor less gun, and i've never seen one have any trouble ;) Just wish i could afford to get one of my own :/
Peathag
Hi, a really good cheap semi-auto that is actually reliable is the overlooked Browning Silver. A couple of my friends own these guns and one was bought for £250 and the other was a bit dearer but both have grey/blue plastic stocks/fore ends and are gas operated. They don't have a full length rib if you look from the profile just the a couple of inches at either end that meet up when you mount the gun - I have never found this to be a problem and it will reduce the costs in making the gun. However, you don't see many of these guns for sale but a quick internet search revealed the might be one at clarkesgunshop.co.uk.
captainstoopid
Winchester SX3 if your budget allows, absolute floor less gun, and i've never seen one have any trouble ;) Just wish i could afford to get one of my own :/ I'd agree with Simon 123. I have an SX3 (3 1/2 inch chamber, composite model) it cycles a variety of loads brilliantly, it is easy to take apart and clean and is yet to let me down
0145wirbelwind
If you want cheap then buy a second hand Remington 1100 you cant go wrong for so little money, or if your pockets are a little deeper then go for a beretta
chrispti
Anyone own or shot a Benelli Vinchi? And if so how does it handle,is it easy to assemble etc (modular design) BB Very pointable and well balanced Down side, they must be the hardest kicking gun in the Benelli range Best auto IS, the Beretta Xtrema/Urika 2 They just do not jam, will cycle ANY load you feed it and felt recoil is the lightest compared to any other auto firing the same cartridge

coyotemaster
I haven't seen anyone comment on what might be an important aspect of autoloader ownership, that would be ease of cleaning. If you want to shoot an autoloader you better get used to cleaning it. I have shot Remingtons, Berettas, and Brownings they all have their strong and weak points. Brownings gas system is the simplest and very user friendly(as would be the SX3) Remington was relatively easy with more parts, Beretta seemed the most complicated but needed cleaned less often. Something to consider.
highseas
coyote m good point my breda/beretta is soo simple to strip down a hell of a lot easer than a hatstand or benelli it takes longet to strip down my rifle!!
