Pykie
I popped out this morning with the shotgun and a pocket full of cartridges, not expecting many squirrels as they have been hit hard all year. I thought if I get about five then id be happy. Arrived and as I walked to the woods, I shot one on the field, quickly followed by another up a nearby tree the next hour was a bit of a grey blur with me dropping squirrel after squirrel, most running about the ground collecting nuts for the winter stores. I had a count up and was extremely surprised to have had fifteen, with no misses my personal best was 18 so I hurried to the next wood to try break the record. The next wood started off quieter, but soon picked up, taking several amongst thick cover where I squeaked many young ones out to the gun. Realising the cartridges were quickly going, I searched high and low in my car for loose ones and found an assortment to allow me to carry on my squirreling. I ended the day at lunchtime with exactly thirty, and a rabbit that I bolted in the undergrowth and duely bowled over. I only missed three but had three left and rights. Excellent day on the grey squirrels and I doubt I will get this number again by myself for a long time. Three are missing from the pic, and the bunny, as I shot them after taking the photo

No Rob over here they enjoy the status of small game animal and as such are protected and have a closed season most of the year, as do rabbits( which are as scarce as unicorns in my area)

fruity
Took the words out of my mouth. There needs to be a real effort to eradicate these once and for all. + 1 with that mf , they seam to be at saturation point by me , why the forestry dont have organised shooting days and get rid of them for free , and could charge per gun , rather rangers going out picking the odd one off and running poisoning programs Cracking job and pics pykie keep hammering them into the ground Edited October 15, 2011 by fruity

Pykie
Yeah exactly like that, keep the squeaks soft and try copy the sounds the squirrels are making. At one point I shot a big one and had several younger ones dashing about calling. I squeaked back and drew them in one by one. The sound of the shotgun didnt put them off much either.
