I'm getting back into the .22lr recently

All this debate about whether HMR is better along with some issues I've had with my centrefires has made me take the .22lr out a bit more recently. What with my Hornet and the other rifles I rarely bother to pick up the little .22. Well I've made the effort to give it some more field time and I'd forgotten how nice it is to shoot. It's so unbelievably quiet!

I've not had huge bags, half a dozen at the most. But then I do just go and lie under a hedge where I expect a few to show and I'm only out for an hour or so. I think I'm going to do more of this!

I know there are a fair few Foxers and Deer stalkers among us but the .22 is and always has been the most popular round out there so I was wondering... How many of you only have a .22lr on your FAC and what do you shoot with them? :hmm:

Same here, Since getting my HMR in March the CZ .22lr hasn't had a look in until I decided to take it out one night last week again i'd forgotten how good they are and so quiet, however it has made me realise the trigger isn't up to much compared to my Sako Quad. If I had to give up one of them it would be the HMR think there will always be room for the .22lr

I had a .22lr and HMR when I started shooting. I dropped the .22lr quite quickly because I didn't like the ricochets. I then swapped the HMR for a Hornet and never looked back until I had a call about taking on a job of shooting all the Foxes a chap local to me had cage trapped. The guy used to shoot them himself but had to give up his FAC due to health problems so now when he gets one he calls me to dispatch it. I did a couple with the Hornet but then spotted a really cheap nearly new CZ452 Varmint on Guntrader - so I bought it. Turned out it was a cracking gun and I don't know how I managed without a .22lr when I sold the first! It sits in the cabinet getting overlooked but now and again I take it out and every time I wonder how I managed to forget about it!

I like my HMR, but if im reeling of quite a few rounds I always feel bad, but when I use the .22, it just makes me smile, you have to be stealthy to get close (closer than HMR) and it is very cheap, accurate and I love my setup. It has accounted for more kills than anything in my gun cabinet, and I will NEVER sell it. HMR is going this Friday. Lovely rifle, just don't use it that much.

Whilst i would not be without my 17HMR for "general vermin shooting" I have recently been given a .22LR "Pumper" which I am getting quite attached to for Bunny Bashing - Especially lamping! I had almost forgotten how much of a pleasure that.22LR is to shoot and how quiet it is once you fit a moderator on. :good:

I know you like the Hummer but there is a big band of ex-HMR owners growing by the day ;)

The HMR is a brilliant little round for a fairly specialised use. It offers quite impressive range for people who don't want to step out of the rimfire class. The ammunition isn't cheap, but then it's not expensive either. You get a jacketed bullet, bottle necked case and double the range of the .22lr all for the price of a shotgun cartridge.

Personally I will always favour the Hornet. I can reload for the same cost as I can buy HMR ammo and it's a better round for my use. But it is a lot of bother compared to grabbing a box of HMR from the shop and getting on with it, no need to keep cases etc. :good:

I have to agree with you but even though my .22LR is such a "pleasure" to shoot I personally would never part with my 17HMR.:no::no: Both rifles have a very justified place in my gun cabinet, they both have their advantages and they both have their disadvantages when compared to each other!

Love everything about the HMR except the cost,(which isnt that bad considering I hit most things with it).

The .22 I generally use if im sitting off a warren. I have to say I have never really added targets out and measured the drop which would help me to gain the full potential of the caliber. really I just use it for 50 yard shots or I take the HMR :/
