rabbit_stu
After trying for three years to persuade me my sister finally managed to get me to give blood. I hate needles and blood so I knew I was in for a rough time. After feeling a little faint after only the finger ***** test I knew it could only get worse, but to my surprise it all ran very smoothly. I had fantastic veins and donated really quickly, but as soon as the needle came out I nearly passed out, then again when I stood up and finally whilst enjoying a recovery biscuit I had to lay on the floor as an old lady was already using the faint bed. I was there for an hour and half in total. So if u get my bag of blood anytime... Be sure to no it was hard earned! Do feel good for doing it though, give it a go guys... If I can anyone can! Boromir
Im the same as you, I would rather fight an angry lion than have a needle sticking in my arm, shame as I would like to give blood.
wayne78
First time I gave blood I had this battleaxe of a nurse who had the touch of a bulldozer. Ended up with a beauty of a bruise and ached for days. Thankfully I went again and it was no problem at all. Been quite a few times now and it's a great thing you can do for others. Frenchieboy
I started giving blood as soon as I was old enough to. I can't go as a donor any more due to medical reasons otherwise I still would. If the blood that I gave helped someone else then I am happy, after all I never know when someone elses blood might save my life! For most people giving blood is quite an easy and quick process and can save lives, if you can go as a blood donour please do! To all of you that are already regular donors I have one word for you - RESPECT
THE AD
Just got to fifty pints. I now have a new pen and a gold donor card as my reward.
steve_b_wales
I donated blood for many years, but now donate platelets. This can be done every 3 weeks. Not everyone can give platelets, as you must have a suitable vein in your arm for the needle to be inserted. A great experience though, and you get many cups of tea/coffee etc and loads of biscuits while you are donating.
death from below
likewise I'm a platelet donor and try to give a dose every month - it's about the only time I sit still - it does give me a good feeling knowing that my donation might just make a difference to someone who I will never meet. The blood service nurses at Brentwood where I donate are brill.
100milesaway
I unfortunatly due to having jaundice as a child am unable to give blood, i would if i could. However 42 years ago i rammed a rather large lampost in Prestwich, which resulted amonst other things in a rather nasty ruptured liver, I ended up losing half of it and with the ensuing operation ended up recieving 10 pints of blood. So a big thank you to all of you out there who do donate as I for one would not be here now if it wasn't for you all. THANK YOU. from Auntie. Cosd
I've given blood for years, and yes it does give you a good feeling knowing it could help somebody live. Try to do it as often as is allowed, in fact I called for a new list of places to go to donate and got it through the door just over a week ago. kyska
I too give blood, I've given bone marrow twice too in my philanthropic throws (1st time was ok, ******* hurt for weeks the second time). Thumbs up to all who do. Never know when you or a loved one needs it.
njc110381
I used to give regularly but haven't for a year or more... This reminds me that I really should get and sort it out! I'm not bothered by needles at all, although I have been known to play on it a bit if the nurse looks nice.
