fulltimeshooter
Opinel no.10 :o
Mungler
If you do go for an opinel make sure you ALWAYS remember to twist the lock shut as its not a nice sight when it folds shut on someones fingers. Oh yes, I have done that and it hurts and I would imagine I am not alone. Anyone else going to confess to carelessly chopping their own fingers when not applying the lock properly? fulltimeshooter
I agree Opinel's, cheap, carbon steel so you can sharpen it easily and keep it very sharp. If you do go for an opinel make sure you ALWAYS remember to twist the lock shut as its not a nice sight when it folds shut on someones fingers. p.s No.6 is the right size. No.10 is a good size for skinning me thinks
Al Buck
I've got a couple of Opinel No. 7 's which as stated above are cheap (around a fiver if I remember correctly), are bloody sharp, extreamly lightweight (don't even notice you've got it in your pocket, the only minor downside is that if you leave it wet/damp then they're covered in rust by the next day. My other favourite is the SWAT range of knive's, I've got a standard and a baby swat, great knive's, razor sharp, hold's a good edge, a nice size to use and has rubber on the grip for non slip. The baby swat is a better size for taking out into the field though
Mungler
£40 for one knife with a 3" blade. I could lose 7 Opinels and still have money left over for a no. 8 to lose...

Quist
I've got a tiny Swiss army with a 2"blade, scissors, screwdriver toothpick and tweezers. I carry that all the time. The OLd Bill are going to be pushed to call it an offensive weapon When I'm shooting, I've got a three inch fixed blade sheath knife I use for general stuff like paunching rabbits. When I'm stalking I carry that plus a 4" with a skin zipper on the back and two skinning knives, a 2" and a 3" all in my Roe sack. When I'm back home preparing meat for the freezer I've got a set of boning knives and a chopper and say.

king ratcatcher
i use the number 7 too, dont really need a big knife for skining and gutting, i rather use a bigger knife to take pigeon breast out
killer rabbit (r1000)
got a few double-bladed rolson knives - 2 1/2" plain blade (double-bevelled), 2 1/2" serrated blade (single-bevel), both blades are bloody sharp (excuse the pun) & keep well. not bad for a tenner each (including a carrabiner-style analogue watch / light, very nice one too ) i also own a very good set of german kitchen knives - good heavy solid construction & also keep the edges very well
Pedro
I use a number 8 opinel which I've had for years, still wickedly sharp and a great knife. P.

browningstalker10g
ive got a nice 5 inche bladed akah, witch i find increadably versatile, and i got a cheap deerhunter gut knife from fmtc for 20 od quid for general gutting lol
arjimlad
My no 7 Opinel is 22 years old. It can open a bit in the pocket, so I put some masking tape in the slot to hold the blade in better. It's a great little knife. I mainly use either a Buck folding hunter, or a winchester sheath knife when I'm out with the gun nowadays. Baldrick
An Opinel No 8 is the way ahead. Carbon steel is much easier to get a keen edge on, although it's not as resilient as stainless. And if you lose an Opinel they are not expensive to replace. I also use a Spyderco Endura, but the shape of the blade isn't as useful as an Opinel.
