Pedro
As the topic title says, what are people paying for .243 ammo per box of 20. A mate in Suffolk has just paid £45 for a box of Sako 100gr It's been a while since I bought any, but that seems chuffin expensive to me! I've Googled the price. but tbh, its not coming up with much, so I'd like as many replies from all round the country please. Many Thanks, P. steve_b_wales
I re-load my .243 ammo, but I also use PRVI Partizan 100grn SP ammo as well. This is excellent value for the money, and I have had no problems with accuracy. Also, I've had no complaints off the foxes. Steve.
phaedra1106
My friend shoots Prvi factory, 90 or 100gr soft point are £59 x 100 from Henry Kranks
Redgum
Last time I bought some it cost £34 per 20 of RWS 100gr s/ps. PRVI is real cheap but my remmie didnt like it, and personally I wasnt that impressed with the differant report noises I had from the same box though alot of people get on with it. The gun shot really well with the RWS so I started reloading and got even better accuracy for less than third of the price. I bought some sako hammerhead 150gr 308's to run my latest gun in and they were £36 per 20.The arguement over saving money by reloading always comes up on these posts, for me, loading for several calibres and wieghts of ammo and shooting alot of rnds its saved me a packet. If your gun shoots well enough with PRVI stick with that as they cost almost as little as you could reload em for.
gixer1
Norma 75grn BT's are around £27 a box up here at the moment in one of the shops. The PRVI is £11.80/20, Remmington corelok 100gr SP's were £31/20 and federal 80gr SP's are £38.. Lapua were up around the £40 odd mark! bedwards1966
About £29 for 55gr ballistic Winchester round here, about the same for 100gr soft points. £45 per box seems a lot, if I were using 100gr much I'd be looking at these PRVI Partizan. It really makes you wonder about getting into reloading, thinking how much money might be saved.

Reloading is a great hobby in itself and the finished product will be usually more accurate than the expensive stuff that comes in box's. Start up costs will be between £150-£200,less if you can buy second hand, alot more if you go for top end target gear ( lee stuff is easily capable of making 'better than factory' ammo.) I guess it all depends on how much it then costs per round to make them, but the thing is I don't actually use that many, it just costs a lot for what I do use. How easy is it to pick up cheap 2nd hand gear, and what does it end up costing per round, and how much do you actually have to shoot to make it worthwhile? How easy is it to pick up cheap 2nd hand gear, and what does it end up costing per round, and how much do you actually have to shoot to make it worthwhile? Secondhand stuff is not that easy to find, when it comes up it goes quick so its something that will take a while to collect. As for the cost of a round, well it depends on what materials you use of course.Luckily I have never had to buy brass, started off with 100 rnds I had bought live and used, these can be reloaded ten times or more, now know enough of those that shoot 243 and don't reload so have a good supply of once fired. I use Viht 160 powder which is one of the cheaper ones, think I paid £63 for a kilo last time. Calculating that to 42grain load is about 18p per rnd,I use sierra prohunter 100gr sp which cost me 20p each ( though my local RFD sells em for £38 per 100). Primers about 3.5 pence each so your looking at 41.5pence each, £8.30 per 20 without the brass. Now considering my remmie only liked ammo around the £30 plus mark per 20 I'm saving over a £1 a round, I get through at least 400rnds a year so in a couple of years of reloading its been worth it. Just couldnt get on with PRVI, wouldnt group much under 2 inchs and then would get the odd flier, if it shot 1inch MOA and I only used 100 a year then of course that would have been the better deal. The added bonus is when you add another calibre to your reloading list, the only money you have to get back is the set of dies as you already have the rest of the kit. Apart from the money side I do find it an interesting hoby and you can custom aload to your rifle and requirements.
Rushjob
Privi 100g for me £23 for 40 - my very 2nd hand Parker Hale 1200 loves them.
Dekers
Ammo can be found at silly prices all round the country, home brews are commonly MUCH cheaper and loads can almost always be developed to outshoot any factory. The fact is I am fortunate that PRVI works more than well enough for my requirements in my .223, .243 and .308. Bought some PRVI .243 90g SP on 23.12.11, £59.50p per 100, doesn't seem that long ago it was £39.50p per 100.

Vince Green
Cheers guys, I'd say my mates been well shafted! Not really, these sort of prices are far from unusual. And if you were only taking your rifle out a couple of times a year for deer, which a lot of people do, you wouldn't really be that bothered. £2 a bang is not going to make that much difference on a stalking weekend costing thousands. Less than a drink before dinner in the hotel. Its only the existence of Privi ammo that has changed it all. Otherwise we would be saying £45 a box? Yeah thats about average. Dekers
Peter Lawman has them £49.95 per 100 Buy some quick, that was the old price, expect about a £10 per 100 hike in price when he gets his next delivery!
Vince Green
Buy some quick, that was the old price, expect about a £10 per 100 hike in price when he gets his next delivery! Even then its still cheap. My real interest is in letting the £45 a box dealers know why they don't see me anymore. If we could get that message across we might be getting somewhere but they seem to be remarkably thick skinned. It can't be that they don't realise Edited December 30, 2011 by Vince Green
njc110381
The last box I bought was £35/20. Home loaded I can chuck out most Deer size rounds for about 50p each which means I get to shoot more at smaller game and know my rifle better. MM
reloading is the way forward or knocking on Number 10 is a better way. It costs pence to make ammo, yet look at what the government are doing to it with high taxes. (ill get off me soap box now)
cockercas
i bought some remington 100gr core-lock £27 at one shop and £21 at another

If we could get that message across we might be getting somewhere but they seem to be remarkably thick skinned. It can't be that they don't realise Everything is relative, and many will see this as cost effective, simple fact is, it only seems like 3-4 years ago it was half the price or less! Some ammo is really getting daft, I shoot the PRVI 150g SP in my Rem .308, and it can manage 1" all day if I do my bit, a pal of mine has to buy £2.75p a bang to achieve "hunting" consistency/performance for his Rem .308! ***k me, that does make the PRVI at 60p a bang sound excellent value! Vince Green
You have to take into account also the snob value. Some people actually like to pay more for their ammo because they believe it must be better. To an extent I can see where they are coming from on that. I can see that its not the done thing to turn up on some Highland Estate in your Range Rover and tweed suit with Privi. Its like up till recently you wouldn't turn up on a posh driven day with plastic cartridges, always had to be paper. I don't think its so true now.
