Diceman
Please, no Daily Mail / BNP / EDL type rants. I'm just wondering if what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, or should we rise above it and show our contempt for those who take offence at every imagined insult? lewj
yes i voted, just beacuse if it was the other way around and a "white" person offended any other skin coulor/race or belife they'd be for the high jump
-Mongrel-
In an ideal world you'd just write it off. In our world it's a racist comment, albeit the reverse of what is usually shouted about, as such, I suspect her days in her current position are numbered. In her position she DOES know better. ...although the best thing to come out of this is that it's shown Milliband in a very poor light ! He's already been castigated for being soft on punishing the racist comments of one of his party! BBC Radio 2 at it's best!! M.I.A
Too right she should, if a white person said something along them lines about another race they would probably be arrested let alone sacked on the spot Edited January 5, 2012 by M.I.A

woodcock11
Please, no Daily Mail / BNP / EDL type rants. I'm just wondering if what is sauce for the goose is sauce for the gander, or should we rise above it and show our contempt for those who take offence at every imagined insult? Yes, I think she should go - even some members of her party think so including at least one former shadow minister and even the ineffectual Milliband is cross with her. The problem is not just this one silly gaffe - it is yet another in a long line of megamistakes and stupid comments - would I want this woman to represent me in Parliament and the answer is no - she cannot possibly claim to represent all her constituents whatever race, colour or creed they come from and just because she is from the black rather than any other community does not exempt her from these responsibilities. I too hope we will have no bigoted comments from racist parties who were trashed in the last elections
Kes
Those who are racist, should not be in public office. A mistake is a mistake but this was a truly racist comment.

Kes
Is it still racist if it's true? A racist comment is a racist comment - truth, perceived or otherwise has no bearing on the simple fact.
lewj
if a study shown that say polish people living in the uk cost the goverment more than any other country there for polish tax should be risen by an extra 2% some how i dont think it would be ok even if it was true im not saying that it is or should jsut using it for a example
MM
I dont care. Let em kill each other in the streets. Black and white people want to say things to each other, i really couldt give a toss. Fredom of speach? yeah, as long as nobody is offended. If it offends you, dont get involved.

ack-ack
The whole race thing thing bores the **** off of me. If I went to Africa and they called me a white X I wouldn't give a flying monkeys toss. What difference does it make?

Kes
I agree with Ack -Ack, I dont have a problem with supposedly racist comments such as this but if you insist on not offending others and make it law, because you are an MP you are NOT above that law. Bit like the expenses issue - I can do what I like - i'm an MP. Sauce for the goose is sauce for the Abbot.
Raja Clavata
Another yes vote, can't have it both ways. If she doesn't go then it's an appalling reflection on the Labour Party and their leader. If she was ever a credible candidate for leadership then again what a statement that makes. To be honest I really can't believe she is held in very high esteem by any ethnic groups. Actually, come to think of it Ed is in a no win situation here. Ho hum. Willxx
I went for no, not because I think she shouldn't be reprimanded for making comments which without any doubt would have been roundly condemned and ended the career of any person swapping "white" for "black" but because I think we should be looking to re-establish some degree of common sense and not playing a childish game of he said - she said to score points in an essentially futile argument. There are things which offend everyone but most of us are adults and can stand an occasional "sling and arrow" - is it really the case that we should encourage everyone to look for the slightest opportunity to take offence? Gordon R
I would have more sympathy with her, if I thought she had learned her lesson. Sadly, she moves from one gaffe to another, barely pausing to reflect on her stupidity and hypocrisy.

bruno22rf
I say NO-who wants her sacked because they have genuinely been hurt by her comments and who wants to get revenge for all the "coloured" comment farce? This has to stop somewhere so lets show our true colours and rise above it all-most of us left the playground many years ago-lets not go back there.
