High Velocity .22's

Recommended Posts

Been doing some performance tests with high velocity .22's to see how they are suited to shorter barrels.post-55706-0-52925800-1339490049.jpg

Got some interesting results from the CCI stingers. The 32 grain bullets left my 14 inch barrel at an average velocity of 1641 fps (191.4 fpe) which was higher than I expected as I had read that the stingers keep accelerating for 23 inches of barrel. They certainly hadn't lost much speed in the 14 inch barrel though. Eley High Velocity Hollow Point were consistent and the most accurate with and average muzzle velocity of 1282 fps (146 fpe) from the 40 gran bullets. I achieved 3 shots touching at 110 yards, which was better than I expected from a H.V. .22 at that range. These were the most accurate of the four I tested. CCI Velocitors shot well from the Anshutz 64 with an average muzzle velocity of 1395 fps (172.8 fpe) with 1 1/2 inch group at 110 yards. Remington Yellow Jackets at 33 grains, left the muzzle at an average velocity of 1336 fps (131fpe) but grouping wasn't so good, as with the stingers, at 110 yards that I was shooting they struggled to better 2 inch groups, though it might well be my shooting. My conclusion is that high velocity .22's certainly seem to work well in shorter carbine barrels, with no noticable effect on power or accuracy.

i have tried

stinger... did not group well at all

rws....... grouped well but cant find them now

winchester grouped a little better than stingers but not great

velocitors grouped well and at 100 yards were bang on with my scope set at 50 yard zero with winnie subs so great

just picked up some new cci quiets to try

Are the eleys uncoated lead? Don't like mixing copper coated with lead as seems to screw up accuracy! Would be interested to get hold of the Hv eleys, would like to know shot placement diff between std subs and the Hv eleys at 100 yards with a 60yd zero on subs

With 55 yard zero for eley subs I got 3 inch drop with eley high velocity at 110 yards. No copper on the eley high velocity, just waxy like the subs.

110 yards

I bought a box of cci Blazers at the Pheonix... they seem to be doing very nicely indeed but only tried them at 25 up to now.. My mate thrust a box of stingers in my hand and told me once I tried them I wouldn't go back.... time will tell but unlikely if they group poorly!!!

Keep up the good work Rimfire

checkout the cci web site the stingers start out at 191 ft lb at muzzle and at 100 yards are hitting with 81 ft lb

the velocitors start out at 183 ft lb at muzzle and still have 104 ft lb at 100 yards which is more than most subs have at muzzle

:good: :good: :good:

Yes, the velocitors are good. Certainly hit very hard for a .22 and accuracy is as good as you need. Better than stingers in my experience :good:

Always interesting to read other peoples experiences, and once again this shows how individual barrel dependent results can be.

Both my .22lr are dedicated sub tools these days, but, back when, I found the Stingers to be all over the shop, the Velocitors were acceptable, and did carry their energy well, and I used them quite a lot, but the best performers, accuracy wise, were the Rem Yellow HP.

Interesting as some Remington subs I got recently to help run in my new .22lr Semi were without doubt the WORST bullet I have used for Many years!

:good:
