last week a bunch of mates was out for a play , nice wide country roads , small hump back bridge in excess of speed limit , air under wheels ect ect nothing too out of the blue , when bam ! shocker mounting plate let go on swinging arm , he did really well to keep it upright with the wheel grounding on the mud guard . sufice to say the main dealer is looking into this sheepishly !

im guessing stress crack round the welds , he was a tad shook up , but didnt let it go . wheel burried itself into the mud guard and slowed him right down !

the dealer wants his whole bike to inspect which is a ****** , as he just wants to get back on a ride it .

Mate,

if its let go on the rear shock welding whats to say it wont try it on the front - I would be sending letters to Yamaha HQ and asking what they are going to do to stop him sending the pics and info to the bike mags...... I'm sure their customer service department will be more than interested in facilitating his biking needs....

+1 I know his first port of call is the selling dealer, but I would also be on the phone to Yamaha UK this is a serous safety issue as the bike is less than a year old I would demand a new bike as I would have lost all confidence in the bikes build quality.

Dear Mr Yamaha,

Please find enclosed some photographs of my R6 swinging arm. I'm sure you would like to investigate it fully, however, I need a motorcycle.

I have lost faith in the R6 now, so please supply an R1 for commuting and an R7 for weekends. If you don't have any spare bikes for me, don't worry, Honda have said they can supply me with a couple and will take away the R6 too.

Yours,

Etc. Etc.

Is it just me or did I read hump back bridge in excess of the speed limit?

So your mate jumped his R6, went airborne and broke it?

What did he expect to happen?

I would'nt jump a road car over a bridge with out expecting to break something why would a bike be any different?

I think he should learn a lesson before he becomes a statistic

I thimk you are being a bit hard but bikes dont fly well. They are not made for that kind of impacked

one of my bikes is made to fly its a 2002 rm 250 and the rear swing arm is half the size of a r6 or the likes of....im pritty sure an r6 should be able to take some air they do in the TT and superbike. lets face it if you leave the ground on a r6 its only going to be max 12" of the ground .....any bike should be able to take that. its a poor weld id say or it was stress cracked and the jolt made it give way.
