TJ91
what breed do you take with you while fowling? i seem to see more spaniels on the marsh than labs and more labs in the beating line than spaniels...is ther a reason for this? Gutty Boots
Always had Springers myself.
Reabrook
I use Labs now but have had Springers in the past. Truth be known if I could find what I wanted in a Springer I would not have changed to Labs. The modern trialling type ESS is not designed for the rigours and cold of Wildfowling in my opinion. Others will see it differant and I accept that but I'll be sticking with the Labs for the foreseeable future.

steve0146
you need to get a dog that suits your personality. A springer is too mental for me so have a lab for Wildfowling.

oxfordfowler
When "Paddy" (Lab) pass on a few years ago the other half brought home a Labradoodle. Could have bought two good Lab's for the price. Anyway "Lexi" has turned to be an entertaining companion out on the marsh and she is big/powerful enough to swin across almost anything whilst retrieving. Once seen not forgotten. ayano3
Fox Red Lab for me. I started with a Springer and although she was a tough little girl she was always cold as her coat was more silky than that of a Lab so she was always wet and shivering. Then I had a Black Lab, great for the job and made for the marsh. I now have Rhia and she is very good, she is also the best colour I have had for not being spotted in the greens of the marsh as she is a very dark colour. I have met Lexi (above post) and must agree one seen never fogotten, lovely thick coat for the job. Edited August 13, 2012 by ayano3

Reabrook
gwp for me also just got a lab but had springers all my life so for me its not the dog its there trainer ^_^ Can't see how training comes into it. If a dog is physically not up to the job due to size, type of coat etc etc all the training in the world isn't going to make any difference.
