Disagree, problems start with parents who cant be ***** with their own kids........ or worse put them on a pedestal. I love mine and think they're pretty much on the right track, angels they are NOT !!

These parents who cant be **** with their own kids are the very people who escaped corpral punishment at school.

They had no discipline and learn't that there were no boundaries, and simply passed this on to their children,

I stand by what I said

So I was 11 years old, or there abouts, many moons ago, and full of it. Just climbed over a hedge with apples I'd scrumped from a farmers orchard, stuffed up me jumper, feeling pretty much "the man". On dropping down the other side of the hedge, I came face to face with the local bobby sitting on his bike smoking a fag. Well son, he said, you pinched e'm, you eat e'm  . Never touched an apple to this day, had the gallops for a week  , instant justise, can't beat it.

Core!! Did you manage them all??

It might be a separate thread, but it is the same issue.

Police commanded more respect in years gone by and the odd one did clip people around the ear. It was accepted that the recipient deserved it.

The problem is that nowadays people are more aware of their rights. There are also a number of absolute idiots in the Police who accidentally kill someone or assault a woman.

Respect goes two ways. The public, in general, seems less respectful of the Police. However, there are a number of Policemen / women who do not earn nor command respect. If some of the posters on here are actually in the Police - as opposed to claiming they are the Police - it amply demonstrates my point.

But have forgotten all about the responsibilities that go with them

Yep. It's a cycle. Children escape discipline, they grow up badly behaved an without discipline or responsibility, they then pass this onto their children, then they grow up and pass their lack of discipline or responsibility onto the next generation. Unless that cycle is broken, it will only get worse. What makes this even worse is that, as has been mentioned, people know their rights but completely forget the responsibilities which go with them.

I am not old enough to remember the sort of events mentioned in these posts, but the previous generation had a lot more responsiblity than a lot of young people today.

Right, I always say this when these threads come up.

Let's look at this way, you lot are either the generation who are 'going to the dogs' era, or you are the generation who RAISED the kids who are in the 'going to the dogs era' or you Raised your kids in such a way they went on to raise their kids in this 'going to the dogs' era.

Either way, you really can't blame anyone but yourself.

You lot are the guys who voted in the last 20 years worth of politicians, yet it always seems to be someone else's fault.

The first thing to remove is the no win no fee scenario - when this goes the compensation culture goes with it. When this is gone, even "stern words" and "taking home" will start to function again - the parents wont want the aggro if there is nothing in it for them and they will start to control the kids - it may take time but many "ills" will disappear.

Bang on !

It might be a separate thread, but it is the same issue.,,,,,,,, well said gordon,,and look who started it,,,the mods close his other thread so he starts this,,he certainly needs to get a grip of himself

It's a separate issue. If you are unhappy with me posting the question then don't look at the thread.

I'm interested the fact that there seems to be a massive reaction to any incident involving the police using force but then you hear people saying in the good old days the local bobby would give you a clip round the ear if you were out of line.

It's only you and Gordon who are bringing the other thread up.

It's true the police can't do right for doing wrong...they're to soft or hard and are blamed for the actions of complete scumbags.

This paradox is often highlighted by Inspector Gadgets blog
