Any of you guys ever suffered from this? Or know how long it lasts?

I've been struck off work for over a week and quite frankly this has to be the worse thing I've ever experienced!

It can only be described as a constant face and head ache, cold sweats and the smell?..... Jesus, it's like someone's hung a last seasons's pheasant in my nasal passage!

I've been prescribed antibiotics and pain killers but the bloody thing doesn't seem to get any better. I've got a shoot on Saturday and hope it will have cleared by then.

Not getting any sympathy of Mrs Hedd either!

Bloody awful mate, how long do yours last?

Antibiotics normally work after 2-3 days, its an awkward place for them to 'get to'!

What painkiller has your doc given, or have you been told to take over the counter stuff? I find that paracetamol and ibuprofen work, codeine makes me feel a bit rough.

He gave me prescribed Co-Codamol, only started the Antibiotics yesterday so will have to wait for them to kick in.

I had it for years on and off , to the point where I could not breathe or sleep . Tried antibiotics and all sorts but it got worse . I went back to the GP and asked to be referred to the ENT specialists at the hospital . 4 months later I saw him and he said I need an operation called Full Endoscopic sinus surgery. ( FESS ).

Had the op. and could breathe again through my nose and no pain. You might have a polyp up there too which is similar to sinusitis.

I also used to get it regularly. Was diagnosed as having a ‘deviated septum’ due to getting my nose bashed around a lot. This caused poor airflow and hence he breeding ground for bugs to develop.

Had a septoplasty. Not a nice op but since having it done 8 years ago have had about two mild bouts of it.

Try steaming your head with Olbas oil in the water. Brings some relief.

I've had sinus problems for the last fifteen years. I think it was started off by motorcycling in cold weather. It hurts my face, it's like a mask of pressure and also makes my eyes ache. Apparently I've got a drainage problem that would need surgery but its only fifty percent success rate, so I never had it done. Ibuprofen eases the pressure for me but its a recurring problem.

Inflammed sinus passages, full cure is the fess operation. Next best is steroid spray like nasonex-need prescription and anti inflammatory , Antibiotics will only work of there is a bacterial infection at the same time. Condition only worsens with time so get operation sooner rather

Than later.

Thanks for the sympathy lads, can always rely on my pigeon pervs to make this better. ;)

This is the first time I've experienced this by the way, so I won't be considering an operation quite yet.

Mungler, I'm glad you're not a doctor, nearly lost an eye trying to find my Maxillary!

Assuming no other medical problems have you tried salt water?

I often suffer from straightforward sinusitis and find that it clears the problem almost immediately.

Dissolve two tablespoons of table salt in a half pint glass of water. You then have to immerse your nostrils sort of upside down in the sloution, and inhale powerfully through your nose. You need to get as much of the salt solution into your nasal passage as possible and this can take a little getting used to. Repeat two or three times.

You should be able to feel the salt dissolving the impacted mucus and it will run away from your nose quite quickly.

You might want to do this outside because of all the spluttering when inhaling and because of the speed with which the disolved mucus will flow.

I suffered very badly with sinusitis as a kid. I had my sinuses drained several times back then, 50 years ago, it was a tube up each nostril without any anaesthetic or pain killers and was a horrible sensation.

Mudpatten the saline method is just like getting seawater up your nose, another reason apart from floating ***** etc to give swimming in the sea a swerve.

Over about 30 years on and off i have suffered this. I have had 5 operations on the nose, my septum too was diagnosed as "not straight". Had washouts, bone removed, cauterised, anti-biotics and owned more steroid and nasal sprays than a chemist. Was spending more time with the ENT department than with my family. It was decided also that i had rhinitis

Told the ENT last year i didn't want to have any more treatment for it and stop all sprays, since then the condition seems better, not perfect, but better.

I used to use the salt/warm water type treatment but I used Bicarbonate of Soda instead of salt,I used a syringe and ,turning my back to the sink,I hung my head backwards over the sink and filled each nostril with the solution, after a couple of minutes a good blow would reveal tons of gunk.Eventually I went to a private clinic(on the advice of my GP)and they drilled 2 holes thru the roof of my mouth and broke away some of the bone tissue-never suffered since but do take a spray called "Nasonex" every day.
