Big Al
I recently bought a 2nd hand xtrema and I have just noticed that serial numbers on the action and barrels are different . I contacted the RFD who sold me the gun who tells me this is normal enough for Beretta semi -automatics and I shouldnt worry aslong as the serial number on my FAC is the same as the one on the action of the gun. He said Sako rifles can have this too. It still seems a bit odd to me. Why have numbers on both if they dont tally? Has anyone else come across this? tweedledee
seems odd to me,i would think both serial numbers should be on ticket... maybe someone fancied longer or shorter barrels
al4x
Its normal use the action number on your cert, my browning is the same and had the wrong number put on my ticket when I bought it FEO sorted it the third time he spotted it. Catweazle
Are shotgun barrels controlled ? If there is no record of their serial numbers this must be difficult.
Lord Geordie
I was under the impression extra barrels were to be added to your ticket as a firearm in themself? Thats what I was told anyway!
mickmep
beretta barrels are mass produced and not fitted to the action as o/u shotguns the serial numbers dont match from the A303 onwards, i've only ever had the receiver serial number entered on my certifcate. the numbers not matching is nothing to worry about. hillmouse
Personally I would enter both numbers on your shotgun certificate. Covers every eventuality. Not a problem on shotguns as you can have pretty much what you want and there is room just to write it in. Simply mention it on your notification that it is one gun with 2 serial numbers. With a Sako Quad rifle you get different numbers for each action and barrel. I would fill in a section for the action and another for each barrel. I would also need to see a specific allowance for each calibre of barrel, which would be listed seperately under "authorised to posses", or "authorised to purchase or acquire" sections. BlaserF3
I've never entered shotgun barrel serial numbers on my sgc...rifle barrels come into a totally different catagory on a fac Some Police forces seem to have their own rules but Cumbria are not bothered about spare shotgun barrels. Things are even tighter here than in GB. In N. Ireland there is no such thing as a Shotgun Certificate, only FACs. Everything must go through Police and all guns (inc shotguns and even sub 12 ft lb air rifles) are equally tightly controlled. Every gun and serial number is added by police. I can add nothing. Thanks for the replies and I take some reassurance from the fact that my situation is not unique.

He also specifically said this was not a "mix and match."
Alycidon
I was under the impression extra barrels were to be added to your ticket as a firearm in themself? Thats what I was told anyway! They are. I have a 687 with an additional set of used barrels from a 686. A
welshwarrior
Spare barrels don't go on SGC only the action serial number. Someone has swapped barrels at some point no issue if you are happy with the choke and length.
BlaserF3
In the last 30 years I've never had a semi auto where the numbers match.

njc110381
When I first spotted that on my Xtrema I was worried but had the same response as you have. I sold it some time ago and now have a Urika 2 and that's the same. I guess it's a good thing because if you want to change to a different length barrel you could simply swap it with another shooter who wanted what you have. IEH
I have a Beretta A303 and a Benelli Supernova, both of which have different serial numbers between barrel and action. Serial numbers from the actions are those on my SGC.

I have to say I feel pretty relieved. It is a great fowling gun and I am happy with it.
