Pike
Just seen on the BBC news page that six men from an 'organised shoot' have been charged under the Wildlife and Countryside act after shooting barnacle geese P
Piebob
Took me a while to find it so here is the link. Once again, PW very topical - there was a thread on this very topic this week. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/scotlan...ast/6033701.stm

Country_est
A flock of Barneys should not be mistaken for any other goose as they are smaller and have a more eratic flight. Problem come when you get a singleton in with a family group of Pinks or Greys. have seen this and they are very dificult to spot like that. But you aren't likely to shoot 6 of them.. Cheers trev
henry d
Never mind the fact that they sound like a pack of pekingese. I just hope they were using non-tox otherwise were all in deep doo-doo as the RSP(RAPTORS) etc. will use it for as much leverage as possible

Cranfield
Reading that report it sounds as though they dumped them somewhere and they were found. I was in Dundee some years ago on business and stayed at Kirriemuir. In the Hotel bar they were complaining about "English" shooters, who were paying to shoot geese and shooting so many (on potato fields), that they were just leaving them in the ditches and hedgerows. Lord Geordie
I think if someone went shooting with me and shot so many geese they had to ditch them I would be a bit Cheesed off too Shoot what you can use. If I went Wildfowling 1 goose would do me and i would be happy enough to get 1 and go home LG
kdubya
Aint just the english shooters? I lived in peterhead for a few years back in the late 70,s ( used to go for a drink or two with a mate who lived in ellon) christ geese where very "fair game" numbers where NOT a consideration, one shooter I knew used to go out on a honda 50!! and regularly obtain (by chance) a bit of lamb!! never mind geese. cheers KW
Graham M
One Barnacle goose…..a mistake. Six!!!!!!! No way . And to just dump them. This isn’t wildfowling, it’s just killing for the sake of it. Why would anyone want to shoot any goose or duck and then dump them. These are the stupid b@st@rds that will kill our sport if we ain’t careful. Sorry about the language cranfield, but these people make me so angry. G.M. If I went Wildfowling 1 goose would do me and i would be happy enough to get 1 and go home LG I think that groups of shooters were travelling up from England, staying in digs, paying for their shooting and seeing more geese in one flight, than they have probably seen in their life, thats when the old red mist descends and they make sure they get their moneys worth. I saw flocks going on to the semi flooded potato fields that were so vast, you couldn't start to estimate their numbers.
rarms
>Why would anyone want to shoot any goose or duck and then dump them Probably because they realised their mistake and didn't want to get stopped on the way home with them! I doubt they did actually dump them or how could they trace it to the exact 7 people who shot them. Anyone could have dumped them on the land! roe doe
i think we should give it time to come out as the only people who know what really happened are those who were there . and we know that the RPSB will plaster it all over the place and give it bad press
