Dunkield
What about the jewel in Bucks crown Dunkield? You know who I mean! VV one of the best clay layouts around I like the ground a lot, as you already know, but I don't think they are in the running, they can't shot in the summer months either. Churchill's have been asked to quote in the past, but the cost was prohibitively expensive for a charity shoot
bakerboy
Ok, only going to comment on the South venues: High Lodge - Good possibility, well run, good targets, large clubhouse, relatively easy to get too, John Bidwell would support a Charity Shoot, I'm sure..? Southdown - OK ground, lots of money invested under new ownership, targets very good, small clubhouse but larger outside marquee, big downside is that it's possibly too far "darn sarf" for most..? Fennes - Not a bad location, probably good targets, but have to admit I don't know the ground or it's owners that well as they don't shoot competitions..? Churchills - See my comments above, lots of "Hooray Henry's" running the place, nice ground, but probably unable to oblige..? Sporting Targets - Been there, done that, they make the most of a flat field with loads of earth banks, a friendly greeting, OK, but not brilliant targets, perhaps one we could "rotate" with..? Banbury - Do you mean Barbury..? Ok, not shot it, but have heard good reports about it, a tad too far South for most soft Northerners, (their Giro's funded by us tax paying Southerners only cover so much petrol), worth a phone call..? Others perhaps worthy of consideration: Northampton GC - Normally a veritable sea of mud, but hopefully not in June, targets not too bad, a lot of un-tapped potential, location good for most. Weston Wood - Nice ground, wooded setting, good location, Steve Lovatt is a regular on most forums who, rather unusually for most ground owners can think "outside the box", biggest downside is small clubhouse. A1 SG Borehamwood - Great location, very friendly owners who would make a real effort to please, targets possibly a bit iffy, (but who really cares for a Charity Shoot..?), close to the fleshpots of London, again, a small clubhouse. Lea Valley SG, Hertford - Good location, OK clubhouse, targets not too bad, user friendly owners, well worth a phone call. 4 Counties SG, Newbury - A little gem of a club, great wooded setting, super friendly owners, but small clubhouse and not sure whether they would get away with a Saturday shoot..? Star GC, Chessington, Surrey - Great location alongside M25, nice club, but again, Saturdays may be a problem for them..? Cambridge GC - Another flat field, but a very friendly, well run club, decent clubhouse, I'm sure they would aim to please..?? Anybody else got any more suggestions..? Cat. A larger club house/ meeting rooms now available at the A1
Yellow Bear
The idea as I remember it was to be as central as possible but if necessary just over the N/S divide - not rampantly South or North - all 3 ground so far have come into this category, really favoring neither side for travel - ground like A1 and Churchills, whilst they may be brilliant and they may be great for the home counties contingent, are one hell of a trek for those who support from the north need to do 150+ just for the midlands. So let's be sensible in our suggestions please
Will Poon
By the sounds of it most shooters want to make a weekend of it and book into a hotel/campsite or whatever , I certinally do, so surely distance shouldn't be that much of an issue should it, it's only once a year just my thoughts
Teal
Plenty of leads here guys - thanks keep them coming. I will say that Yellow Bear is absolutely spot on about wanting to be within the central belt of the Midlands. All three grounds so far have just about been in that area, give or take a bit North/South. Work is ongoing on calculating a mid-point for the 2012 event, and once we have that we'll start tapping up some grounds and seeing what our options are
PhilR
A larger club house/ meeting rooms now available at the A1 Hotels in the area too and easy access for the London nightlife.

TrapFiller
May sound a bit generic but what about Doveridge. Nice ground and a good walk up the hill and it pretty much in the middle of the country. Not sure on prices though i think its 27p a clay. AlistairB
How about Cambridge Gun Club, really nice layout with good targets, clubhouse may be a little small though. http://www.cambridgegunclub.co.uk/index.html AB

Will Poon
Just had a look at the PW Charity shoot website and last year just over £4000 was raised for the Different stokes charity, it may sound a stupid question but how exactly was the money raised

Nice ground and a good walk up the hill and it pretty much in the middle of the country. Not sure on prices though i think its 27p a clay. Was on the short list last year, it was put to the vote between that and Orston. Orston won, the hill was an issue for some PW members due to health reasons. shaun4860
A very nice gesture, Maybe just a thought but run a seperate raffle for the gun alongside the prizes raffle, Im sure Teal will sort out whats best
neil3728
Thats a very nice gesture, Could it be the prize for the person who tries their hardest but is still a **** shot. If we can't arrange a seperate raffle what about a little fun auction, for some of the better prizes.

It was never designed as an auction, due I would like to think because it makes everyone equal regardless of the size of their wallet Prizes are donated by the members to give everyone a chance, not those with the deepest pockets
Reece
How did the idea for a charity shoot come about in the first place? And when will there be a chance to nominate and decide on charities?
bakerboy
I think the very forward thinking ME started this great event. The choice of venue and charity comes a little later, and is all done very democratically and that is when the real banter starts
