Casey1875
Hi all, I've just been invited on my first driven day which I think is going to be fairly informal, I'm looking for all the do's and donts and some advice on what to wear and take with me. Thanks in advance Casey
al4x
Simply though fairly informal it never hurts to be reasonably smart on driven days so something like moleskins with a checked shirt and shooting tie is likely to fit in wherever you go, then green jacket and wellies is fine. Then sensible gun so O/U or S/S suitable cartridges then on the day just think safety, don't shoot low birds or poach from your neighbour too much. Taking a bottle usually goes down well with beaters and guns alike and then just enjoy it.
WelshLamb
First of all just basic manners - hello, please and thankyou. Only go for the sporting shots and don't run out of shells! Most of all, enjoy!

My only advice to Casey would be to look smart, be safe and not to shoot other guns birds.

figgy
If your good friends with the bloke on the next peg you must poach all his birds it's the done thing, and shoot any passing you to get to him. Be safe, smart and most of all enjoy your day. The banter on a good informal shoot can be great. Figgy

Casey1875
Thanks for all the advice, I'll go and buy myself a new tie! I'm really looking forward to it just a bit nervous as to what to expect.
rimfire4969
All of the above good advise, well most of it anyway. Don't: wear camo, shoot a pump or semi, take low birds which could cause you to swing through the line, shoot birds over the next peg. 99% is just plain common sense and safety. Make sure you say thanks to the beaters and keeper. Have a great day, and enjoy the excitement of a driven day. Oh and make sure you know which way the birds should be coming from, nothing funnier than seeing a gun facing the wrong way.

Surely a person can wear any clothing they desire and shoot whatever gun they prefer? Does someone that wears a realtree coat and shoot a escort semi mean they are not welcome or not worthy of shooting with the elite crew? spot the odd one out lol Edited January 2, 2013 by Mr Rizzini

triumphant59
Don't take a semi auto. Don't wear camo gear. Wear a tie. Don't swear, especially if ladies present. Never swing thru the line of guns. Don't shoot ground game. Don't shoot easy/low birds. Pick up empties. Never shoot before all guns are on their pegs. Never shoot after drive end whistle has blown. And enjoy your day.
rimfire4969
I dont think there is a place for camo and semi shotguns on a traditional driven day.

pontbeck
There is etiquette on a driven shoot You are expected to wear the correct clothing and shoot an o/u or s/s This does not make you elite but conscious of what is expected in your sport I shoot with people of varying backgrounds from those in manuel work to executives but we all have the same respect for our sport and dress and conduct ourselves as would be expected

I honestly think the whole tweed and moleskin trend is a load of rubbish as is the no semi rule. Just because generally most of these shoots are on fancy estates that all the big banks go on and to dress up in upper class clothing makes them feel better than the average joe. I for one would not take part on one of those shoots but if it wear a smaller syndicate that didn't mind what I wore then I would be happy to support it. Would you be allowed to use a camo perazzi sbs?
pontbeck
I shoot a small syndicate of working class blokes and no you would not be welcome with that attitude
rimfire4969
On our small DIY shoot we wear what we like, we all wear a tie and dress smart, a camo jacket is fine and worn by a couple of guns, but they still have a tie and breeks. On a paid day I like to put on my best shooting clothes its all part of the day and feeling better than everyone I can't help that I just look so hot. Or as my kids say so ****.
