fenboy
If you do a search there are 100s of threads on this subject , but general consensus is 30-32 grams of 6 shot , though I and many others have shot 1000s with 28grams of 7 1/2s
TJ91
Sooooo many threads on this! 28-32grams 7.5-6s...all do the job at appropriate ranges. Appropriate range depends on your ability aswel as the gun/cartridge/choke combination.
B725
Fibre every time nothing looks worse than a lot of plas wads left in the field.

Alycidon
Fibre wad, no farmer wants plastic wads littered everywhere. Loads, depends on your gun. Normal weight O/U then 30 gr of 5 or 6 shot will do, heavier o/u, semi auto then you could move up to 32s if you wish. Lightweight SBS then 28gr of 6s. Ears
Plas wads, the farmer still owns a plough.

motty
I haven't come across a farmer who stipulated that i only use fibre wadded cartridges. That's why i don't use them. I have shot hundreds of cartridges in a day on some occassions - the fields hardly look littered at all. As has already been mentioned, the plough takes good care of the wads in time. 308win
I have been using Gamebore Kent Velocity 29g 6's in Fibre Wad. Ive also used a few of these on Pheasants, they do kill well. I'm pretty sure they are £180 from justcartridges.co.uk Otherwise i use Clay loads, 28g 7.5's they do the job just fine if you dont try and push them too far. fenboy
I usually use plastic wads , never had a complaint to be fair all the land around here is arable with hardly any livestock so its not a issue , if the land you shoot has livestock then use fibre. Ears
If you are rich enough, you can get pdp wads. photo degradable plastic wads. Eley VIP bit pricey though to squirt at pigeons.
sitsinhedges
If I've had a good day on the pigeons I usually try and walk the decoy layout and pick up as many plastic wads as I can find, and usually get a fair percentage of them. If the farmer wants a particular cartridge to be used he's welcome to buy them for me Edited January 29, 2013 by sitsinhedges
bucksshooter
sounds like fibre wads it is then,i would rather play safe with the landowners
Vince Green
TBH if your decoying its not much of an effort to pick up your plastic wads at the end of the day. Its just about tidyness and respect really. If plastic wads are cheaper you may consider the option of picking them up to be acceptable for a bit of a saving. There have been discussions about PDP and how long they take to degrade. Or not degrade as the case may be.
The Essex Hunter
What would people advise as the best cartridge for pigeon shooting? and what is more acceptable fibre or plastic wads? I use 28 gm 7.5 in fibre…..because one farm stipulates fibre only due to Lucerne as one of there crops so it was just as easy to only buy them. I don’t shoot that much game but when I do a few boxes of 32gm Black gold and RC’s in 6’s also in fibre are my choice. TEH

GingerCat
I've noticed fiber has a little more recoil but not noticed a better pattern with plastic.
Royboy
I got some Hull Special Pigeon over the weekend. 32g 6s and they are the best pigeon cartridge I've used yet. Very hard hitting and was confident with the high birds. Will be buying another slab when these are gone. Clear pigeon are ok but I was getting a lot of birds were feathers were coming out but birds were carrying on. HULL ALL THE WAY !!!
bucksshooter
Are the hull specials fibre or plastic wad?
Royboy
I think the 30g are in fiber and plastic but 32g are just in plastic. Edited February 4, 2013 by Royboy
