Cash in hand payments

So you go out to work all week and pay tax on your income.

You go shopping and pay tax on your purchases.

You fuel the car and pay 85% of it in tax.

You get your Road Fund Licence demand.

You go to the pub for a drink to help you forget the amount of tax you have been screwed out of and have to pay tax on your pint.

Then you do a job and someone says "I'll give you £50 for cash" and you want us to pay tax on that as well???

The swear filter prevents a thorough response.

I absolutely agree with you. BUT wind forward a bit. Because you and others are avoiding paying tax, taxes will need to go up. Therefore you (and everybody else) will pay more income tax, fuel tax, VAT etc. so you will feel justified in doing more cash in hand work. etc. etc. I am not sure there is a way out of this. We're doomed.

cash in hand work will never be abolished, even if you remove cash altogether people will just resort back to trading good's/labour in return for work, all the time there is tax there will be people who get around paying it !

Actually a different question that will help us come to an answer.

If you accept cash in hand payments and don't declare them would you be prepared to pay tax on them IF the overal rate of tax was lower?

TBH No ! All the time tax gets used to pay for benefit spongers or immagrants i will pay as little as i can get away with !

I try to pay cash as much as possible, and it usually results in a better deal so suits me.On the other side, ill pay as little tax as i have to.Saying us all paying more tax will sort the country oot is very naive,it just means the government will waste it in other ways.

And that my friends is the crux of the problem. We feel we shouldn't pay tax because it's somebody elses problem.

I agree with KW (damn). We are going the way of Greece.

Very poor trolling fella. The heading says So corrupt nobody pays taxes, and you are comparing them to the UK?Maybe you are on the social and pay nothing, but ask the vast, vast and vast majority of people in the UK if they pay taxes.

Banks have and are crippling this country when everyone got paid cash weekly all shops etc had 4 weekends a month when it went to monthly payments they end up with one good trading weekend a month it was a disaster to shops /Taxi's/ pubs etc. Yes so lets give them more business cos the CEO's of the banks are struggling a bit. :ninja: :ninja:

Feel and did are a different matter, you pay no more than the appropriate rate if all income declared, if you "feel" that by giving cash in hand you are just putting a "bit extra on the table for them" (as they will not be dashing off to the taxman to declare their latest earnings) why not pay them in the way of giving them food or clothing, surely then you will feel all warm and rosy, and all win :whistling:

I think that this is the crux of the matter in this issue.

People feel that they are having to reduce their living standard to afford the massive and ever increasing levels of tax, both direct and on goods, that we are being expected to pay.

Most people I know who work are not working to live, they are merely working to exist.

Holidays are something that most used to do but no more.

Food used to be something you went and brought as you fancied, now it is something you budget for.

Taking the kids to the seaside for the day at the weekend used to be an enjoyable family day, now it is something you don't do because of the fuel cost.

Would I as a self-employed person take cash payments? Damn right I would, I am sick of paying into this country only to see politicians **** it up the wall.

Having said that, unfortunately all my work is in the public domain as it is tied to published planning applications so I couldn't run the risk of not declaring work

seeing as it seems there is an "education gap" re where our taxes go here is a little light reading (best viewed with the blinkers off)

Not really surprising when in my area out of 32 billion only 2 billion goes on education, with 15 billion going on 'helping others'.

Don't see what your point is.

The word "feel" was used by moi,in response to AVBs usage of the word, and as you are on my level of trolling you will see it was justifyable.Im not thinking of them when i give them cash,im thinking of the extra Glayva i can drink with the money i saved. And anyway, the peasants wouldnt appreciate the Harkila clothing i would give them to keep warm.

Avoiding tax by whatever means is rife within any community, from the very top earners to the most lowliest, and while I know the OP doesn't want to include mega companies such as google, starbucks etc, they will always be referred to by means of vindication(even though two wrongs don't mean a right)by those who wish to stay outside of legitimate business practises. The aim is one and the same....to avoid paying tax.

I know of one bloke who earns good money as a tradesman 5 days a week for his employed work, but works EVERY weekend for various people for cash in hand.He holidays all over the world.

There's a couple of lads whom I doubt the Inland Revenue and social services, even know exist,as they contribute nothing to society and work strictly for cash in hand at a reduced rate. They are never out of work, and are employed by some very wealthy people who are well aware of their circumstances.

I have lost count of the number of times I have been asked by customers for either a cash discount or requests to make my invoices out for something they can claim back. What do I do?Say no and never get any repeat work?Times are hard, and I have a mortgage and two children to cater for.I'm afraid my moral issues regarding this aren't a priority at the moment.

I do cash in hand at every single opportunity-why should I pay the government to have my bike/.car serviced? If you get to know the managers then a lot of garages are glad to take cash-I can get my Shogun oil/filter and air filter replaced for £50 using fully synthetic oil-if I go to halfords I would struggle to buy the oil for that.

And thats part the reason they get to be wealthy,

In fact, people with money are some of the worst for screwing you down on prices and/or paying their bills.
