ayano3
I think Harry means well but has worded it wrong..it should read: Wildfowling available on the Wash. You are allowed to shoot from 1st Sept to sometime after christmas if you last that long. Be prepared to part with £100 quid...ish which qualifies you to get your gear mauled up to your nuts and get wet and cold. Early season you sweat your nuts off and get bites bigger that your Mrs/Girfriend/partnes 'Fleshy Lumps' that itch for days and drive you mad. Never believe the adverts about 1000000's of geese and ducks that frequent the place...if you are lucky you could see between 500 & 1000 geese at some point but they mostly fly too high and miles away from you anyway. The best days are the ones you cant go because you unfortunately have to work for a living. The duck...well they just mess around and dont ever do as all those books you have read suggest. Theres often the chance of some of these passing by at less that 20 yards, but typically they do their fly-by just as your feet are rooted in 2ft of mud and you cant turn to reach your gun, or even worse the coffee has played havoc with your bladder and you have stripped off those heavy mud spattered chest waders and are in no position to let go of what you have in your hand otherwise you will be even wetter to add to how wet those 5mm neoprene things have already made you! So in brief, thats Wildfowling. If you fancy joining the elite off all sports, the first thing you will need to do is find someone willing to take you and help you, surely you wouldnt want to drown or be trapped on a tide would you? . Sounds easy doesnt it ?? after all most clubs have IRO 150/200 members ! surely some of those will be jumping around and smiling like the cheshire cat at the thought of helping...dont believe it.... Dont let me put anyone off Wildfowling...but dont get the idea you will be there to shoot every species and have enough meat to supply Tescos. If you like the sunrise and a nice walk, or a sunset and mosquitos JOIN NOW. PS There is more than one club on the Wash.

Big Mat
You forgot the bit about all the ducks/geese coming over the car park 30 yards up whilst we are all there taking our waders off In fact i just went outside to feed the animals, and a pair of greylag come over me no more than 15 yards up! They know when they are safe

And if your a true wildfowler you will be on pins waiting to do it all again next time!. The mentor thing is maybe the biggest issue in wildfowlings future. But the risks are real so is the responsibility, nobody wants to give away their secrets of were and when and its a sport for the guy who likes to be left alone in the dark with only a soggy dog for company and a flask of luke warm soup. scolopax
Yep, the situation in the NW is pretty dire, unless you are fortunate enough already to be a member of one of these clubs. It is a crazy situation when even locals cannot get into the club, waiting lists of 20+ years, it really is dead men,s boots.

kent
Dee wildfowlers and wetlands management club are on the net and usually welcome new members under their probationary scheme (depending on club numbers that season). minimum of ten accompanied visits in a minimum of one complete season, some classroom sessions then an interview and your free to go out alone. Help with mentoring is normally provided. Now is a good time to get in touch

scolopax
If you are generous and include the North Norfolk coast as being part for the wash then 100, 000 pinks probably was a realistic number a few years back.
