Shoot.The.Crow
Interested on hearin people's views on shootin rabbits? Was out on sat with a mate he had a .22 rifle and I had my shotgun, a rabbit burst from cover and I gave it the whole heap of shot, stopped it in it's tracks but it wasn't dead, was squealin quite bad and had to give it another shot to kill it, it was my first rabbit iv shot as I'm not long shooting and have only shot woody's and crows which iv no problem with! Think the thing to really sickin me a bit is when we gutted the rabbit it had tiny babies inside, not a great sight to see to be honest! old rooster
Used to be that we reckoned to ferret rabbits when there as an R in the month but the seasons are now so screwed up that they breed late and early. We finished ferreting for this "winter" a couple of weekends back when a good number of the rabbits had young in them. Not really on compassionate grounds as there are plenty of bunnies where we go but it can lead to the ferrets laying up, which is a real pain and I don't like digging? LOL You won't have any problem eating the does that we're on kindle. Edited March 3, 2013 by old rooster

welsh1
Unfortunately if you shoot rabbits it is inevitable you will wound one and hear that scream,it will make you want to get a clean kill whenever possible, and dispatch it swiftly if you cannot. As for the babies, again it will happen they breed like rabbits ,think of it along the lines that you are there to control the population, and by dispatching that one rabbit you have disposed of about 6 other potential crop munchers. Or get extremely powerful bino's and sex them before you shoot them

Big Mat
I've shot rabbits all year round that have young in them, as much as i like rabbits, i'd rather see the farmers crops grow so i continue to shoot them.
Gimlet
Its a case of get over it I'm afraid. That's the reality of shooting. Pregnant does are a bonus as far as I'm concerned: several for the price of one. If the foetuses are well advanced I put them back inside the cavity after paunching and feed them to the ferrets with the offal. Oh and they're kittens. Only the great apes have babies. ging125
Shot a rabbit with the 243 the other day and blew the kittens all over the place, some were gasping. pretty disturbing, but humaninly despathced them ASAP and carried on shooting. Its a necessity for crop protection and if we didnt control the numbers there would be a serious problem! All rabbits are a serious competitor for the crops we eat!!! The fact you were upset and had a quick follow up shot shows respect for your quarry and you will do you utmost for a humane kill everytime you pull the trigger from now on!!. Dont let it put you off the sport!!
