miffy
Went out last night with my lamping buddy for a couple of hours. Pulled up at our usual starting point and got the rifle and lamp ready, my mate unlocked the gate as i got into the back of the landy...... then off we went. First few fields drew a blank but as we drove into the 3rd a set of eyes were spotted at the far end of the field. Within a few seconds of calling the fox showed some interest and made its way towards us, it disappeard through a hedge a couple of times but eventually came in to about 80 yards.......first fox in the bag As we drove out from that field another set of eyes were spotted in some long grass, when i squeaked to try and get the fox to present a clear shot, it disappeared acroos the field in the opposite direction We drove around the field to where it was last seen and it had gone on about 120 yards, still in some long grass but the shot could be taken. We made our way across the farm yard and behind the barns and as we turned down a track we saw a fox running towards us. It turned and ran towards the woods and would not sit still long enough to get a shot off We managed to pick it up just as it got to the hedge line that runs alongside the woods.......it stayed still just long enough to dispatch a 65 grain vmax in its direction It was about half 12 and we started to make our way back and in one of the last fields we spotted another set of eyes in the distance so we pulled off the road. Put the lamp on again and it had disappeared, after 5 minutes or so it appeared again but we had to get into a better position to shoot. The fox eventually presented a safe shot at about 150 yards, this fox was a huge Vixen which appeared to be in cub (bottom fox on pic) We were out for about 4 hours and sis manage to see a couple more foxes but didn't manage to get a shot. There isn't many rabbits on this permission but we did manage to pick up 13 on the way round all shot with the .17hmr (rabbits not foxes)
