Kes
Well this latest statement confirms that power is at the root of the Church. Why would Pope (god on earth) care about the Falklands enough to intervene in a very human situation. Why align the Catholic church in such a way? The Church is playing politics, reflecting the burden of catholics in the south americas and for me has more important things for it to clean up first, even at home - like paedophile priests, corrupt priests cardinals and leity. Just another large leap down the road to perdition for the men in red robes with feet of clay. Religeon is bunk.

This happened weeks ago before he became pope and it was at a service to commemorate there people who died in the conflict and after all he is Argentine so what would you expect him to say do not make mountains out of mile hills . Gimlet
Argentina is no stranger to colonialism. Just ask Chile about Terra del Fuego. The Argies have pinched land of most of their neighbours. I wonder how his Holiness feels about that. They don't seem to understand that there is more to property ownership than claiming something is yours because you think it ought to be. Perhaps he'll suggest Argentina returns land to its neighbours in a spirit of reconciliation. And while he's at it maybe he'll lift the ban on contraception while there's stilll some land left in South America.

By the same logic Argentina uses, which is proximity, it could go the other way and the Falklands could claim Argentina as its own.
unapalomablanca
Listen, this is just rubbish. Take it from me and i am no einstein. The falklands are a non issue, as in the other thread. They will always be a non issue, meaning that they are the falklanders and no one elses. A bit like your house is yours and nothing to do with me. Forget what movie stars, Popes and other interfering individuals think. The deeds are owned by the british, they tried an illegal invasion, it failed and so will any other. Its chip wrapper news and time to move on.
kent
they will try again trust me on this. It might not be in the next decade or the next 3 decades but it will be within 40 years when they feel strong and believe we have our guard or resolve at a low point. As for the Pope its a mockery - I am not a fan of any religion just a means to control the masses, every religion on the planet gets bent to suit the ideas of those in power history proves it!
