Salopian
This country is so run down, broken and trouble torn that we need to tell the rest of the World that we should not be referred to as Poundland.

Blunderbuss
Wow you're a cheerful chap. It ain't perfect (nowhere is, trust me) but I've lived overseas and travelled the world and there is nowhere I'd rather call home. One of this countries biggest problems is people running it down. Footu
My god I wish it all pound land. "Pint please, what a pound ,ok I'll have three then. " And a car. Or a house. Or even a bus fare into town would do. No, things are definitely not a pound.
Oli
Wasnt this just the joke made on "have I got news for you"? A country can only be as great as the people in it, i find most of the people i know are good. Ive seen a few whiners about recently though which make the place less than great. Oli
It's all good around this kneck of the woods despite what the daily mail would have you believe, no shortage of jobs, people smiling in the streets, the odd country dancer prancing around may polls, lambs in the fields, I even spotted a cheeky bumble bee In the garden today going about his busines. Pushkin
Better I think if we can at least congratulate those entrepreneurs who have managed to get some business going; that seems to be agreeable to those customers who have a pound in their pocket eh? Why knock it unless you can come up with something better! Pushkin B)
aldivalloch
Salopian, your pessimism may perchance stem from some completely erroneous and misplaced belief that "Great" Britain was once a perfect place. It wasn't. Rose-tinted glasses off, please.

Spot on. We are a fractured, selfish, and for reasons I don't understand an increasingly juvenile society. We have lost our grip and control over the manner and quality of govenance. Though I think the state of our govenance is as much symptom as cause. Syria is "trouble torn " not Great Britain. That's also true. Its worse than torn. Imperfection
wonder if this will make 22 pages I doubt it.Even the British internet is depressed. Seriously though, just look at what Great Britain has given the world-the internet, DNA, television, jet engine, radar, viagra, penicillin. This country is far from screwed. castletyne
Forced multiculturalism Lazy scum class Labour government I blame above but I think you can still find remnants of what Britain was in some small town and villages Unfortunatly the above viruses will eventually find these places out
FalconFN
Can anyone please pinpoint a moment in time when Britain was Great, and the people were happy, wealthy and contented? I do believe that there has never been such a time and the closest I can think of was during the last govenment when we had money (even though it wasn't ours) food and energy was cheap and all we had to moan about was Iraq.
