How to sell shooting permission?

Recommended Posts

I'm finding this topic quite interesting about Permissions , as I'm only a clay shooter I've been asked by 2 local land/farmers if I wanted to shoot on their land but I always decline their offer when I see them about, are permissions really like gold dust or does it depend on the area you live in ??

We have a lot of written permission, but I doubt we would have them for long if the landowner thought we were 'selling it on'.Why don't you advertise for a few shooting buddies with a view to starting your own rough shooting syndicate if the land is suitable? You could always ask the landowner if he minds if you put down a few birds and start your own shoot.

Initially I think it depends on where you live and more importantly who you know, after that it seems to come down to hard work, building relationships and getting a good rep

The problem with letting "strangers" shoot your land is that you won't know who they really are. I gave permission to a pigeonwatch member who turned out to be a despicable paedophile, now serving a 12 year sentence for offences going back 30 years. I hope he didn't do anything horrible in my woods, but I'll never know for sure.

Keep the land for yourself or allow people who you really know.

The bottom line is that the landowner/owner of shooting rights allows you to shoot the land, this "permission" does not give you any legal right of ownership or any legal right to say who can or cannot shoot the land too.

As sportsmen we rely on others to show courtesy and manners when looking to shoot on land as "your" guest where "you" have been allowed to shoot.
