Insurance Claim

So... Had the new car (as in delivery miles only) 10days and an 18t lorry decided to drive in to me.

They've admitted full liability, insurance pointed me to a local repair place and said they'd visit me to quote on the repair before getting permission to fix.

Spoke to the repair place, no visits - I have to go there. Can't really be doing with the hassle or more time taken up.

Do I have to use who I'm told? Why can't I just drive the car into Volvo and pick it up when fixed.

You don't have to use the body shop they recommend but,you might have problems if there is a problem later on with your repairer or they have preferential rates with them meaning your chosen repairer may be more expensive and you will be liable for the shortfall.

Why not ring your insurer at 09:00 tomorrow morning!

If the company your insurance use is Just car clincs make sure your car does not go there. They are useless, i was told my car would be fixed in 2 weeks time, it ended up taking 12 weeks! Was told they had ordered all the parts, only to be told later they had not! The customer service is just as bad and when i complained the manager told me he was not impressed with my attitude and they has done a good job!

Moral of the story do not take your car to Just Car Clinics if you like your car and want it fixed in a reasonable time!

mate of mine picked up his new car 8am monday morning, on his way to work driving slowly on the M62 an artic driver ran over him, driver had fallen asleep at the wheel.

he survived but the car didnt,

count yourself lucky if you walk away from any smash, take the car to where YOU want it to go.

Read the small print on your policy. Some insist you can only go to one of their recommended repair centres. I fell for that when a bright spark reversed - at some speed - straight in to my car.

When I had refused to accept the less than perfect repair - for the fifth time - I was told I could have gone to a repairer of my choice. In the end, the repair company bought me off with a £2k sweetener. I accepted the repair and traded the car in.

A few years back (quite a few ) i worked at a body shop and we got a 911 in that had been T boned at some traffic lights. The owner had been presented with it at a special presentation to celebrate 50 years of porsche at a dealers. He drove out the dealers and stopped at red lights, when they changed he drove through and got smashed off a golf jumping the lights at speed. The 911 was banana shaped when we got it and they wanted it repaired as it was a limited edition 50th aniversary jobby. IT HAD .9 OF A MILE ON THE CLOCK ! !

The owner never accepted the car and the insurance company retained it after paying £39000 for the repairs and coughed up to the owner the full amount for it.

We got caught by Aviva like that - It had to go to their approved repair company which so happened to be local Ford dealer I use for servicing - If I took it else where I would have had to have paid a £500 excess - I wish I had as repairs were carp but I wanted car back asap. - One other thng is make sure you have courtesy car on your policy - I didn't as we were two car family - or was 9 month's before accident and never thought to check policy.

You don't have to involve your insurer at all, it's nowt to do with them & they may/probably will count it as a negative against you at renewal time. Call the other party's insurer, tell them they are 100% liable & send the car back to the supplying dealer, if the damage is great demand a new car.

Also demand an immediate hire car and don't be told who or where will deal with your car. They will have preferential rates with a repairer hence they will try & bully you to use that repairer but they may not do the best job.

Been there & done it, don't let them dictate anything to you.

Nearly new car, bashed into and repaired. Wherever you get it done I'll have a little wager now that you won't be happy with it ever again.

Had my one and only new car reversed over by a moron in a removals lorry, it went back to the main dealers and the paint job was never right despite repeated returns for rework.

The way cars are made initially these days is pretty slick and you'll do well to find anyone who can fix it so it isn't noticeable.

Bad luck OP, well worth seeing if you can get a new one in replacement.

Do not send it to the insurers recommended repairers unless you have heard good reports about the place. I have made representations on numerous occasions about the quality of repairs to my parents vehicles when they have been involved in minor non fault accidents. Stupid things like the quality of the paint / filler job and them forgetting to affix trim properly.

If it was new I would want it going to the local Volvo dealership as any unauthorised repair work will invalidate your bodywork warranty.
