Wiggum
I've just read on a fishing forum that a lad was doing an over nighter on his own and in the middle of the night his bite alarm sounds so thinking he had a bite gets out his bivvy and a guys stood by his rods. At this point another guys walks up behind him and puts a gun to his head and demands he hand over mobile. They then proceeded to steal steal his rods reels and alarms and mobile all in under 5 mins what's the world coming too. So what would you guys have done in this situation as i don't think there's much you can do really you just can't take the risk it was a real gun. Mr-Sheen
I saw this on 'Carpforum' earlier today and it really is a sad state of affairs. What would i have done in this situation? Id have let them rob me, regardless of them having a gun, if anybody tries to rob you just let them have it, if they are prepared to come down to a lake in the middle of the night, they are going to take your gear regardless of your protest. -Mongrel-
I've been out on the beaches solo and had a couple of worrying events, both turned out to be **** heads wondering what the light was on for. Still disconcerting to have a drunken **** head in your face on a deserted beach. Hence why I now either fish with human company, or take 55 kilos of Rhodesian Ridgeback x Mastiff with me! I have had a few drunks bother me on the beach at night but the worst was I remember fishing the Trent when I was about 13. I got dropped off on the river by my parents and was quite happy fishing but then I realised there was someone behind me. Got the usual "caught ought?" Then the creepy old man carried on questioning me, including "what size are your waders?" At this point I decided he was a dirty old perv and told him the hammer I had used to hammer in my bank sticks was going to meet his head if he didn't jog on....he disappeared thankfully but when my dad picked me up (he was a copper) he called it in and asked for the guy to be found...I don't think he ever was though. MattSoanes
Spent many nights on my own fishing without worrying about getting my gear nicked, makes you think though, good quality carp gear is worth big money. Unfortunately if they make the effort to come down the lake after your gear and your not jackie chan, your going to lose it.
coyotemaster
2 words pop into my mind-----concealed carry. I know it won't ever happen there but it did just pass in Illinois and supposed to be implemented in June. Not that you would need to use the force but events here show that when the populous is armed things like this are more rare.

NIGHT SEARCHER
The same thing happened a few years ago at Sale Water park Manchester. One lad on his own had all his shimano tackle taken and his pit bull dog clubbed with a hammer. It`s a sad sad world when you can`t go night fishing without some low life **** robbing you. It just gives you that equaliser if needed. It gives you the self confidence to live your life without worrying about being robbed. Thats what i love about america. Over here, if you defended yourself with a lump of wood, the liberals would claim you overdid the defence, and side with the scum.

evo
its a shame how OUR country has turned out,but lets be honest everyone, there is no detterent for things like this or anything else for that matter,IF they ever get caught they get a slap on the rist or on the very rare occasion might get jail and what happens yes they are let out early but whilst in jail its like a holiday camp, playstations,tv,s and all in their cells, this sort of thing will continue to happen and why because the law has there hands tied behind their back, and the only people whom seem to benefit from it all are the solicitors who make millions from taxpayers,(yes legal aid) punishments need to be more harsh ,but even then there will be someone who will think that's wrong, I still fish on my own but I have had to now fish private lakes and fisheries because the idiots don't come round but if I was approached by an ******** it would be safe to say that he would not be walking away,he would find it very difficult walking with either my knife or a bankstick rammed up his rear end
