keg
As he is now officially sentenced, does anyone else think 15 months is too lenient considering the ages of some of the victims. We are not talking a pat on the bum as the 18 yr old office junior walks past are we?
The Ghost
He will serve 7.5 months, as he serves half....he will be able to get tagged so will end up doing five months. With a victim aged nine years old, and another 12 victims.....being given five months in prison is not my kind of justice.
Penelope
Disgraceful sentencing.
walshie
5 months for 14 assaults and they are just the ones that have come to light. That's saying that each kid's innocence is only worth about 1 1/2 weeks. Not good enough.

Gordon R
He got away lightly, but won't be the pillar of society that he once was. His public life is over and so it should be.
ack-ack
Doesn't really send out much of a message does it? He got off very lightly. He'd have got more for stiffing HMRC.
Penelope
Makes a mockery of the severity of what he did. He should have gone down for the remainder of his natural. four-wheel-drive
the problem is he is quite old I think in this 80s and its not just the sentence I would think that his life for the most part is over as few people will want to know him I am not making excuses for him just stating the facts. Will Poon
I think I'll stop paying my VAT and taxes I think I may just get 2 days in prison , seems fair doesn't it Justice system in this country is abit wacky sometimes !
kdubya
I suppose they took into account his age and the degree of abuse in the specific offenses, either way albeit belatedly the guy is now shipwrecked totally, loved his barristers remarks saying basically he was not that bad compared to saville!!! Flashman
Still, he was a great summariser on 5 Live, so perhaps that counted in mitigation?
spanj
He got away lightly, but won't be the pillar of society that he once was. His public life is over and so it should be. He's 83 or something his life is nearly over anyway, the sentence is a joke
Gordon R
Agreed. He can just live out his life, rarely emerging from under his stone. The sentence seems to mitigate what he has done. Not sure if it is sending any message at all - other than - if you get caught, it won't be properly punished. Asa Bear
With any luck some unsavoury sorts will get hold of him and he'll receive more than just a knock out!
ME
We just had the same conversation over dinner. Is it right that he gets such a light sentence because of his age? Is it right that he gets such a light sentence because it happened so long ago? Is it right because he is "famous" and it will have finished his career? He is either guilty or not and should be treated like anyone else that did / does the same crime.

Vipa
I think the Judge will have also taken into account the fact that he apparently only has a couple of years to live due to some degenerative illness that came to light a few months ago
Gordon R
ME - fair point. The punishment should fit the crime, not the person.
Mungler
At my school it came to light that a teacher had been interfering with boys at the school. He hung himself the day before his Crown Court trial. Of the 20 people I knew from school who were taught by the teacher, I would say 1 quarter have since topped themselves and 1 quarter have mental health problems. That caper can **** you up forever. Chemical castration should be the starting point of any punishment.
JDog
Were you one of the ones taught by that teacher?
Mungler
Were you one of the ones taught by that teacher? No he was a sports teacher who specialised in fencing. And no, I didn't do fencing - either giving or receiving.
