kdubya
There are bikers who do just that on a regular basis. Until, that is, they get too regular and one morning there's a bunch of plod waiting for them! don't know about money but I do know they have targets, and that once your into that game common sense and flexibility go way out the window. JonathanL
thats going to be a tuffy to prove Has been done in the past. Never assume that anything is "tough" to prove. The police and CPS do this stuff for a living and know their job pretty well most of the time. J.
Paddy Galore!
seems the police are getting very anal about minor traffic stuff. i remember getting pulled over by a traffic cop on the acle straight several years ago, i thought it was some yarco (homie from yarmouth) tail gating me at 90, then i gave the bike a handfull and left him standing, almost, that's when he put his lights on i was clocked at 130+ as i was still accelerating he couldn't ascertain a terminal speed, we had a chat, breathalizer, another chat, then he booked me for the 90mph. after court i managed to keep my licence, they did ask how i got in to the court which i replied "the bus" i still think the humility i showed saved my licence, if not my wallet
JonathanL
I had a driver stopped last week for being on the phone by the met, he passed the attitude test so was given the option of a ticket for not wearing a seatbelt (he was actually wearing one) which was a fine or he could have the mobile phone one of fine plus points. I thought that was fair and he deserved it for being a pillock on the phone I'm sorry but if true that is really, seriously, very dodgy indeed. J. Mike737
Just been done for not stopping at a red light, in a fully loaded artic, in the rain. Next time I'll slam the anchors on last minute and jack knife it in the middle of the road Sorry WelshLamb, but you should have been approaching those lights preparing to stop, until you could see it was clear and safe to proceed. No excuses, you are a professional driver... Green lights ALWAYS turn to red, it's just a matter of when... What if you'd been on your bike, coming through from the side, when an artic came through the red light and took you out? Boot, other foot? Mike. PS I have HGV1 and motorcycle licence, latest bike Harley FLHTCU, so you know I am not biased against lorry drivers or bikers.
Andy135
Quite right, there was a recent case in which a motorist was doing exactly that and a police car was coming towards him. Booked on the spot. Shame, as all this tends to lead towards, is further disrespect for our hard working police forces. IMHO Irony was he booked himself by inadvertently admitting obstruction. Told plod that he was flashing to warn others of the speed trap. If he'd told them that he was flashing to tell other drivers to slow down as he thought they were unsafe... fella
Did I see somewhere recently, that police officers are awarded credit points of a monetary value for any offence they write up. Might've dreamt this, but it would explain the change in leniency?? Absolute rubbish. Police officers cannot attain any monetary gain based on targets, and the competency related threshold pay they were once offered by reaching their top payscale and then exceeding what is expected of them as an officer (not dishing out tickets) has since been rescinded. A lot of these posts scream out that members of this forum genuinely believe that driving is a right, and not a privilege. I'm afraid not. You pass your test, you drive safely. You keep your speed within the limits, you practice safe roadcraft, and you never have to pay a fine or attain points. It's as easy as that. Psyxologos
Driving IS a right, and you should exercise it responsibly. The notion of a privilege requires that there is some superior power/person that affords you said privilege. There is only one such power, and I doubt God is holding a list of who should drive. Life, health, love are privileges. Driving is something a free man/woman choses to do.
GingerCat
Police don't get rewards for handing out tickets, certainly not any monetry value. Most cops don't like traffic matters and words of advice suffice unless your bang to rights and show no remorse or there are other offences apparent. The exception to this is a traffic officer who can and normally will ruin your day as that's his day job between fatel accidents or when there is a local drive against certain offences in the area. Personally I hate fixed cameras and would prefer more traffic officers patrolling as they can respond to other things and have some common sense as well unlike cameras that run out of storage and ggive police a bad image, especially as the cameras are nothing to do with the police. fella
its not a right as you have to prove to the law you are trustworthy and know what you are doing driving a 2 ton murdering machine Precisely. A scary statistic for you is that the biggest killer of girls aged between 15 and 25 in the UK is their boyfriends. While they're driving. garygreengrass
Brown Sauce - fair play for taking it on the chin and not coming out with a million excuses. Anyone who says they have never broken a speed limit is almost certainly lying. It happens - sometimes people do it intentionally, many - it's just accidental. Have you been in a car with him

keg
I find it incredible how many people I see driving very expensive cars that MUST have a car kit fitted, talking with it glued to their ear. You can get a Bluetooth earpiece for £20 or less these days, no need to talk on the phone handheld at all. N Yorks do not have fixed cameras, just mobile units and cars, keeps everyone on their toes..
ME
Round the corner from us there is a very steep hill with one of those signs that tells you the limit and measures and tells you how fast you are going and it flashes up. ME jnr admitted to spending a day up there with his mates on their BMX's seeing who could get the highest speed Obviously I made all the right disapproving noises in front of Mrs ME
