Cosd
Anyone got any experience with these 12v cooling boxes? Are they any good for day trips for keeping drinks cool in the car? Something like this: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/45L-Huge-Coolbox-Drinks-Cooler-Food-Warmer-Heater-Box-with-Wheels-12V-DC-240V-/150860072603?pt=UK_TravelTickets_Accessories_RL&hash=item231ff6069b
al4x
just watch the power useage and if they work with the engine off, I've a relative who junked theirs as it kept killing their battery
TIGHTCHOKE
Strangely enough I was looking at a small one in Lidls this morning. £28 and tall enough for 2litre bottles, would at a guess take 6 of them and has the ability to maintain a temperature 16 degrees below ambient! ph5172
I have a small one fitted as standard (it takes about 16 cans or equivelent) is wired to the ignition so only runs when the car is on. Im also sure it has a hot box function as well. Dont use it a lot to be honest but its nice to have.
Will Poon
Yes I have one its quite good , I wouldn't say it was like as cold as a fridge but it does the job , you have to have it on for an hour or so before it starts working properly
harrycatcat1
Funny you should put this as I bought one from Aldi £35 3 year guarantee a couple of weeks back, it worked off mains and cigarette do da in the car. Didn't work very good at all, took it back yesterday. Regards Hcc
secretagentmole
We had a Camping Gaz one for a camping fridge and it worked OK, Just buy a leisure battery for running it in the car! You can get mains adaptors to power them to run them up at home and make them cold. Also a frozen 2 litre bottle of water makes them cool down quicker too! rimfire4969
We always have a few flat batteries every other week because people leave them plugged in too long and flatten their car battery. As said a spare leisure battery would be best.
welsh1
I have a 50l box in the truck and it keeps water nice and cool. It is supposed to keep it about 8 degrees cooler than the outside temperature. Good for your sarnies as well. Well worth the money.
harry69koi
Got mine from halfords and works a treat plugs in ciggy lighter (only good use for it) and my car switch`s off the power to it when ignition off so never had a flat battery keeps the drinks cool and sarnies fresh on days out B) Lee

welsh1
Sounds like we have the same one. My lighter socket does the same, but I have two in the truck, one constant live and one only on with ignition switched on
HDAV
Good for long drives but a proper cooler is better if not running engine I got one from maplins years ago fill with ice and run to cool down the fill with food/drink and run in the car for long trips also heavier than normal cooler and when not plugged in an running can run in reverse...... seph234
I have a weaco coolio and its OK but the better ones are the compressor type ones but they are quite expensive. but you can run a couple of days before the battery is flat. wheres my coolio flattens a battery in about 6/8 hours
WelshLamb
I used a halfords one as a fridge in my lorry for 3 years. It was on 24/7 and did the trick!! Amazed it didn't conk out!
Blunderbust
I got one from Lidl a couple of years ago and it does a reasonable job of chilling the beers for when we arrive at the camp site.
amateur
We have used ours (Lidl) on the long trip to the Cote d'Azur. Keeps everything nice and cold
CZ550Kevlar
I have a USB one that takes 2 cans of drink, keeps them lovely and cold. Use it in the car and hardly puts any drain on the battery or plug it into my of.
Canis
I bought a 28 litre camping gaz coolbox (still 12 v just made by camping gaz) this year for doing the annual camping expedition (myself, three guys ive known 20 odd years my dog, no women, no computers in back end of beyond doing straight mans glamping). also bought the mains adaptor so had it plugged in all week We where most impressed with it - it worked so well that we managed to last the entire week without having to resort to dodgy french milk in our tea.we where however criminally undersupplied with proper english tea and ended up having to drink french tea flavour substitute but this merely highlights a fault with one of my oldest friends rather than any issue with the coolbox! interesting feature of the camping gaz product not found on the cheaper models - it has an inbuilt voltmeter that shuts it down if the voltyager drops below 11.2 V hence you can leave it plugged in in a car with perm live 12v sockets without risk of stranding yourself by it having drained the battery.
