Hi Ladies & Gents,

I'm now totally cheesed off with paying to watch TV through Sky and am getting rid asap. I intend getting a PVR box but all the reviews for all the manufacturers different models seem to have pretty poor reviews.

Has anybody got one and have you had problems? I did plan on a Humax having had one years ago, but the quality looks to have dropped considerably.

Thanks.

Humax for the win ! :)

We have two one about 6 years or so old when the fist came out. And a recorder version.

Both are ace !

Something along the lines of this.

The only downfall I have come across is the conflict when recording is a bit harsher than the sky box and can result in missing bits of program's.

Just out of interest if you have a sky box you can still use it and get all of the free stations if you are planing on using the free sat satellite you may have to move your dish to track it.

If you have a Sky box you can use it without a viewing card and you will get the "free-to-air" channels. Otherwise, you need to buy a card from Sky, and you will get the "Freesat-from-Sky" channels. In either case, you won't be able to record.

Alternatively, you can buy a Freesat box after deciding whether or not you want one that can record.

In all cases, there is no need to muck about with any dishes as it's the same satellite.

The box is perfectly legal and its a fantastic freeview box, the illegal bit is using cccam to decrypt sky channels

I am not a lawyer - but I think the illegal bit is _selling_ of card sharing data - pay servers. Merely sharing between people is a civil issue with no money changing hands. I could be wrong though.

???

The freesat channels come of the same satellite so need to move dish. If it has acard in it cancel sky leave the card in for free to view channels (no card required for free to air)

EDIT: PS humax.............. and it isnt a civil issue as it its copyright theft just like ripping your mates CD's

I believe copyright infringements per your example - copying mates CD - are a civil issue - as long as you don't go around selling the stuff.

You may well be correct they do seem to use the same satellite but if you use a sky box to view the free to view channels you do get some different channels to the ones that you get when you use a freesat box when I first started I was using a second hand sky box and there was several channels that I liked to look at one was horse and country and there was one that seemed to show mostly old tractors but when I got my freevew box with recorder in it I lost those channels but did pick up some different ones.

It's down to the encryption not the satellite, you may be able tune in other FTV channels which are not shown on the freesat EPG but are on SKY, it costs to be listed on an EPG and some broadcasters opt out of some EPGs have a look at Lyngsat for Astra 2 cluster
