pigeon controller
I had a phone call at 09.00 this morning , DB had gone to work and all his contacts were still on holiday so he said did I want to go shooting. Silly question. We arranged to pick him up at 11.00 after I had been with the wife and fed the horse. We set out not knowing what had been shot on Sunday , checked a couple of farms and they had shooters out again on the stubbles. We popped into the farm we shot on Saturday and the farmer said that it was blue over this morning ( i'd like a pound for every time i've heard that comment). We decided to have a look and it had about fifty birds down with a good flightline to it but a very strong wind blowing up the valley . We drove the field to the positon which we would normally shoot but it had no cover and the wind was too strong to build a hide so we settled to move down the hill out of the wind. We set up with twelve real birds, ten static and two on the magnet . We had to move the magnet four times and it ended up the windward side of the pattern. We had a few quiet periods but it was at about 17.30 that it went mad and birds were comming from all directions this was caused by a sand coloured Army helicopter which spook all the birds in the area. We packed up at 18.00 as it was totally devoid of birds. We picked up one hundred and thirteen pigeons, five crows and a magpie. I'm waiting for the phone call tomorrow. JDog
Good one and a very nice new cap if I may say so! I have yet to see any wheat stubble round here but they do seem to be liking barley stubble.
