njc110381
This year seems to be a really good year for wasp nests, but not so good for me! About two weeks ago I was stung pretty badly when I strimmed over a nest clearing a bank at work. I carried on for half an hour or so but started to feel very hot and light headed so went home as I was working on my own. The next day I was fine. I went back to the job to spray the nest and got had again just the once which didn't have any effect. Again several days later I hit another nest and got stung once with no ill feeling. Yesterday I got another good dozen plus dose, again from strimming over their nest and not realising until they started stinging my back. Both times with the major stings I've walked over the hole without seeing them and carried on and they all pile into my back as I'm slowly walking away. Today though is different. I was hot as hell last night and didn't sleep until it was nearly time to get up. Today I feel awful. Sick, hot and cold flushes. Pretty poorly if I'm honest. I'm worried that I may be building some kind of allergy? All the internet advice seems to be aimed towards swelling and rashes but the stings barely show on me. The only thing close I can find is passing out - the light headed feeling could easily go that way if it was any worse. I'm now sat at home sulkling, with my boss expecting me to go and strim another job. I'm actually feeling a little bit miffed with it all. I don't suppose I'll get any sympathy as he has it in his head that I'm lazy and will use any excuse for a day off. In general he's a decent bloke but at times he can be a right knob! henry d
Get to the docs ASAP.
Sian
I would second that - allergic reactions can build up over a period of time and if you continue to get stung regularly you could find yourself in a very dire situation and go into anaphylactic shock. You may be someone who needs to carry an epipen to treat yourself in an emergency.
Salizar
Get to the Docs and try and get an epipen on prescription. I`m a beekeeper and have two epipens which I keep with me when I`m checking my beehives, just in case. I also take a Chlorphenamine tablet (on prescription) before I go to check through my colonies. njc110381
Is this pen likely to be prescribed as a precaution? My doctors is a bloody mare to get an appointment. You have to ring first thing in the morning and may or may not get through. They have emergency appointments but this doesn't really justify it now I'm getting over it this time. Ill ring them and see what they suggest. Perhaps they can offer it after a phone consultation?
FarmerSim
We very nearly lost a good friend to anaphylaxis. Ended up needing adrenaline to pull him through it. He is fine now, but has to carry an epipen at all times - you do not want to put your loved one's through that - it was horrible get to the doc's TODAY!! Penelope
Don't mess about, make an appointment to see your quack. If you are building up an allergy, and you have an anaphylactic episode when/if stung again and you are on your own, you are not coming back, it can be that serious. njc110381
I've just made an appointment for them to ring me and discuss it. I think if they decide it's important they will have me in straight away - it's an easier route than trying to discuss it with the receptionist. Thanks for the advice though, I'm terrible for ignoring things until they get out of hand! The receptionist was so helpful. I was just told that I should have called before 11am to book a triage appointment - looks like you're only allowed to be ill in the morning around here! four-wheel-drive
I never bother phoning for an appointment I find it quicker to go to the surgery ( mind you it is only a couple of miles away ) if you tell the receptionist she will ether let you see the nurse or see the emergency doctor best not to leave it as you do not want to have a funny turn when you are on your own it could kill you. njc110381
I just got the call and apparently the lack of any swelling suggests I should be fine. The faint feeling is due to histamines redirecting blood to the site of the bites and in doing so reducing the supply to the brain? Sounds just perfect! They've left it at that so I hope they are right! Apparently I just need to rest...
Dougy
I would get in to the Dr asap and see them. As folk have said, if , and hopefully not you go in to an anaphylaxis shock then ringing for a Dr or 999 may not be possible.
four-wheel-drive
If you are going to keep on upsetting wasps perhaps it would be worth investing in one of those stab vests like the police where may be hot but at least you would not get stung. Mungler
The pest control bloke that zapped a nest in our back garden said the ones in the ground get the most angry the quickest in his view. I hate wasps with a passion.
Whitebridges
I hate the things. They start getting about more now at this time of year. I'll put a few jam jars with water in the bottom out and drown a few.

njc110381
I'm going to make some traps myself I think, just to spite them! I cut the top off of a coke bottle and turn it inside so it's like a funnel (a bit like a minnow trap) and then put some coke in. They get in because they like the smell and then can't get out. Eventually they crash and drown which can be quite amusing to watch!
fella
I got swarmed by them as a youngster and stung multiple times (imagine being stung in the armpit...) and subsequently wasps and I don't get on. Go to your local walk in centre, take a number, take a seat, and drink some water and wait for the doctor,

four-wheel-drive
As I said before I always prefer to go in person to make an appointment to see the doctor or nurse working on the basis that it is a lot simpler to fob you off on the phone and if it is an urgent matter they tend to say as your are here already go and it down and the doctor will see you when they have a minute also remember that they say that lots of people do not attend there appointments.
