Crows slow this morning.

Decided last night to go for a bash on the crows again. Got up early for a drive up to where i have taken a few off here.

As i was nearing the farm i thought i'd try a field opposite where we shot over the road. Seen a few heading that way last time i shot.

Drove off the main road gate set back a bit, light of the car picked up 2 sets of foxes eyes. Open the gate to drive to the field i wanted to shoot,a lot of rabbits bolting in front of the car light.

Got the gear out over the gate and thought i'd set up far side,so when the sun got up it would not be in my eyes.

Up with the hide out with the deeks a few more than normal. A few crows came in very early while i was having my smoke, did not shoot till just before 6 our cousin lives opposite and got young baby, then their lights went on so started to shoot. :yahoo:

They came in very slow in one's and the odd couple. Had some good shooting a few crackers only missed 1 jackdaw.

Dried up about 10.30 lot of crows heading for a reseeded field on my left which Phil showed myself Steve B and Mark the poacher other week. :sad1:

Watched loads of crows dropping in on the barley fields and around the farm buildings. Went for a look after i'd finished there where hundreds mostly jackdaws and Carrion. Was tempted to set up again but back a bit to sore.

Shot these in pic + 5 over the hedge but cows + calf's + Mr Bull in that field so they stayed where they dropped.

Must say these Trust Cartridges that i'm using are brill don't half knock them down. :good:

Thanks Lads all where carrion + the 15 Jackdaws not sure if 1 of them over the hedge could have been a young rook.

Could have shot about a dozen Pigeons they where flying down the hedge line. Only shot them 2 for a mate.

Will have to try the barley next time hope they cut it soon, told Phil to leave me a hide out of big bales in the middle of the field. Be good for the foxing the night after they cut. :good:

You are an expert of that there is no doubt.

As a matter of interest, where do incoming crows try to land in the pattern of decoys you have shown? You have left no obvious landing zone hole in the pattern.

Cheers Bud. :good: I shoot 90% of my crows sat on my drum, its perfect for me. There is a pic somewhere on here think in craft section.. I make my hide 4 ft x 2ft i sit on the right hand side looking out just enough room to break barrel and to reload. Always against a hedge or a good background is a must. Put my deeks out no more than 15 paces furthest to 5 paces to the nearest. Just random pattern decoys looking and feeding all ways usually between 10 and 20 + mixed decoys see no difference using flocked or unflocked one's. I just pop out now and again if quiet to put dead one's on head props.Any dead outside the 15 paces brought in with others. In the pic they look further out but are not the nearest from where i took pic are all dead birds about 18 paces from hide. I don't worry about leaving a place for crows to drop in, i don't move a inch until they are in range by then it to late for them, nothing much gets away. If 1 does come in without me noticing they usually land on edge of pattern. :good: hope thats a help :good: atvb Terry
