Monkey Nuts
Just bought one to keep my eye in : http://www.gdktrading.co.uk/manual-clay-pigeon-traps/competitor-tyre-mount-manual-clay-pigeon-trap Anyone use one themselves? Not expecting much but hoping it throws a decent clay 50-60 yards? Cheers
Andy H
You might be stuggling to get 50-60 yds with that one the spring on them is nowhere near as strong as on a bowman type manual trap, I have one in the shed and use it for the odd rising bird behind a hedge set up but will not throw them that far. bostonmick
I have one but on a seated frame.very good for the money had no problem getting that distance from it
mx8
an old Farley trap is worth lookin for, the last for years if the rubber's looked after.
thepasty
I've got similar but on a post mount which I've then welded to an old car wheel, it'll easily throw a clay 60 yards.
Monkey Nuts
Just tried it out, quite disappointed really. Might be making 30 yards and i have the washer at the back all the way wound it to put full tension on the spring. Its hard to cock so should in theory be throwing it a fair distance. Any idea what i could be doing wrong? It also likes to throw the clay out to the left and doesn't keep it very level whilst in the air (I have experimented with a release clip on the throwing arm but not made much of a difference.) stubby
Im glad you put this post up, as I was looking at getting one of those soon, maybe I need to find something different
thepasty
only thing you can do is move the clay further out on the arm for max speed. I had another look at yours, its more basic than mine, mine has a balance, ratchet etc. Was only £30 and works a treat.
Monkey Nuts
Just come back from trying it out properly for the first time. Worked fine for about 25 clays then a weld sheared when it was cocked! Now the things bust! Very disappointed, will contact the seller directly. As safe to say I will be pursuing a refund on the current product! Edited September 9, 2013 by Monkey Nuts
Andy H
On the one i have i had to reweld every weld after one fractured and then remade the stand out of decent thickness angle and fully welded not just tack's. If you put the clay on the outer end of the arm it will throw to the right and on the inner to the left so you need to experiment on the clay position also the spring is just not man enough to chuck a clay a decent distance. They are mabe in china. Edited September 9, 2013 by Andy H
thepasty
this is my one... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/EASY-USE-3-4-COCKING-COCK-CLAY-PIGEON-TRAP-POST-MOUNTED-TARGET-SHOOTING-THROWER-/320769646424?pt=UK_SportingGoods_Hunting_ShootingSports_ET&hash=item4aaf5c5f58 But they're £65 now! price has over doubled in six months since I got mine! At the time they were similar priced as the one you got but it looked much better built (being the reason I went for it), now the price reflects the better heavier build quality. Medic1281
Just buy and old/secondhand bowman. I bought a cheap trap from the bay, the vibration was that bad that most clays shattered on the arm! It was useless. I've since bought bowman traps and they are superb! thepasty
We have put many many many clays through mine with no failures. But at the price they're at now second hand ones might be an option.

shaun4860
Im not a fan of GDK traps we bought a double arm electric one, never worked properly from day one, bits fell off including the bottom bearing.....Chinese I believe Had to threaten them with the credit card company to get a refund as they said it worked ok when we returned it Once that was mentioned we got a full refund
Monkey Nuts
Well I contacted GDK and they said I must have received a bad egg and one of their discontinued traps. They are supposedly issuing me with a replacement. Once that arrives, we'll see how long it lasts!
utectok
I had one of these cheap ones for a while. Need attaching to an old wheel or sommat and work best with midi sized clays but I had a lot of fun with it. Got a promatic trap now automatic and great but £500 notes :(
welshwarrior
My farther inlaw has one of these ok for a laugh but had the fix it into the ground really well or the vibrations break the clays.
kennett
I have one, mega basic but with a bit of fettling can throw a midi clay (standards are too slow) a very reasonable distance. As said the position on the arm dictates where the clay goes, bolted mine onto a new heavy duty angle iron base with spikes to knock into even hard ground. With a car towbar or a peg to offset the pull you can throw crossers by your self too

I have paid slightly more i.e almost the difference and upgraded to the same self cocking trap but mine will be mounted on a triangular frame rather than the post mount. Fingers crossed this one doesn't break!
